Fire Magazine team visits ICCI to discuss mutual cooperation – Fnni.org

Islamabad (Bureau Report) A team of Fire Magazine and Fire Online TV led by Nasir Habib, Chief Editor visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry and discussed possibilities for enhancing cooperation between the two organizations to highlight the key issues of business community. Ms. Fam Nasir Managing Editor, Ms. Shanzey Mannaf Editor and Mr. Danial Ahmed Director of Fire Magazine were included in the team.

Atif Ikram Sheikh President, Sheikh Pervez Ahmed Senior Vice President and Sheikh Abdul Waheed Vice President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry briefed the Fire Magazine team about the role of ICCI and important initiatives taken during their tenure for resolving the problems and promoting the interests of local business community.

Both sides agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation to highlight the key issues in print and electronic media being faced by the businesses in Pakistan.

Nasir Habib, Chief Editor, Fire Magazine and Fire Online TV appreciated the role of ICCI in serving the cause of trade and industry. He said print & electronic media play very significant role in bringing the key issues into the notice of the government for remedial measures and added that close liaison between trade bodies and media would yield benefits results for the business activities.

At this occasion, Atif Ikram Sheikh, President ICCI presented souvenir of Chamber to the Chief Editor of Fire Magazine.

                LAHORE (FNNI)  Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said that China has achieved a high place in comity of nations through hard work, dedication and determination. He said that journey of friendship between Pakistan and China is spread over six decades and friendship of both the countries is unprecedented in the world. He said that Pakistan and China are tied in bonds of mutual respect and love. China under the leadership of Communist Party of China achieved this place through supreme sacrifices and facing difficulties. He said that Chinese nation has become a great nation due to determination, hard work and commitment. He said that in 1978 despite socialism, China opened its economy. He said that the secret of progress of Chinese nation is innovation, research and hard work. He said that China has become second biggest economic force and a big military power of the world. He was addressing 67th anniversary of National Day of Peoples Republic of China at a local hotel tonight. The Chief Minister said that friends and foes respects China due to commendable place achieved through hard work. He said that Chinese President has given a great vision of progress and prosperity through one belt one road vision. He said that dozens of projects are being completed speedily throughout Pakistan including Punjab under CPEC. He said that Chinese government and investors have made investment of billions of dollars in these projects. Chinese investment is aimed at progress and welfare of people of Pakistan and elimination of poverty and unemployment. He said that Chinese investment is unprecedented in the world history. Historic investment of 46 billion dollars is for energy, infrastructure, transport and other public welfare projects. He said that CPEC projects will prove to be game changer not only for Pakistan but entire region. He said that vision of speedy development and prosperity of Pakistan is a great favour by Chinese leadership. Chinese vision is reflective of reducing tension through progress and prosperity and searching solution of difficulties through dialogues. Shehbaz Sharif said he understands that China’s vision is unique and Pakistan is lucky it has great friend like China. He said that CPEC will be made our role model. He said that untiring efforts will be made for achieving the objectives of CPEC. He said that Chinese nation has given a lesson of hard work to Pakistan and we have to forward this lesson to coming generations. He said that hard work is the only way of development and prosperity. He said that some elements from within the country and some foreign countries are issuing statements against splendid project of CPEC. It has been said in the statements coming from across the border that CPEC is not acceptable to them. He said that such statements have increased tension as those opposing CPEC are afraid of success of this great project. He said those talking against this project should remember that no one can stop CPEC. He said that journey of progress and prosperity has started and Chinese investment of 46 billion dollars will be increased to thousands billion dollars in future. Shehbaz Sharif said those opposing CPEC should know that this project will not stop but move ahead speedily. The Chief Minister accepted the challenge of those talking of war against poverty from across the border. He said that Pakistan will win the war against poverty soon but the other side will take thousands of years but will not be able to eliminate poverty from their country. He said that threats of stopping water are not justified. He said the opponent countries do not want promotion of CPEC but their nefarious designs will never be fulfilled. The Chief Minister said that no power of the world can stop speedy progress and prosperity under CPEC and this journey will be continued speedily. He said that EXIM Bank of China has released third installment for Orange Line Metro Train Project. He said that Punjab government has filed an appeal in Supreme Court against the decision of High Court. He said that China has expressed full confidence in Pakistani leadership by giving funds for public welfare projects despite the case in the court. He said that metro train is a splendid project of public welfare. He said that funds of Rs. 44 billion have been released for the project so far. He assured Chinese leadership and government to come up to their expectations and added that despite problems metro train project will be completed within stipulated period. He said that politicians, judges, generals, bureaucrats and common man will benefit from world standard, affordable transport facility. He said that this project is not of Lahore or Punjab but the entire country. he said that the honor of Punjab speed with regard to speedy completion of projects in Punjab is an honor of Pakistani people. He said that Punjab speed will change into Pakistan speed and the load-shedding will be eliminated from the country by the end of next year.

ORANGE LINE METRO TRAIN PROJECT WILL COMPLETE IN STIPULATED PERIOD, YU BORNE

               LAHORE (FNNI)   Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese Consul General Yu Boren jointly cut the cake during ceremony of 67th anniversary of National Day of Peoples Republic of China. The Chief Minister served the cake to Chinese Counsel General while the Counsel General served the cake to the Chief Minister. Referring to Punjab speed, Shehbaz Sharif said that Vice Administrator of a Chinese Energy Institution has sent a letter to him and appreciated the completion of energy projects under CPEC in Punjab speedily. He has stated that during his visit, he reviewed the work and quality of projects and he is happy that under Punjab speed, the journey of progress and prosperity of Pakistan is being forwarded. Shehbaz Sharif said that it is not only Punjab speed but Pakistan speed and soon the projects will be forwarded with this speed throughout the country. In his address, the Chief Minister especially thanked Chinese President, Prime Minister, government and people and congratulated them on 67th anniversary of National Day. In his speech, Chinese Counsel General Yu Borne said that the work being carried out on projects under CPEC is unprecedented. He said that 300 megawatt solar power project has been completed in Bahawalpur. Similarly, 70 percent civil works of 1320 megawatt Sahiwal Coal Power Project has also been completed and this project will be completed in the middle of next year. He said that work is also continuing on Karachi Lahore Motorway. He said that work is also being carried out speedily on Lahore Orange Line Metro Train project and expressed the hope that this project also been completed within the stipulated period. He said that hearts of people of both the countries beat together and a new era of friendship has ushered in due to CPEC. He said that friendship between the two countries is unprecedented. Chinese Counsel General especially thanked Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on participating in a function of anniversary of National Day of Peoples Republic of China.

GHULAM ABBAS RETURNS HALF AMOUNT OF SCHOLARSHIP

             LAHOER (FNNI)  A PEEF Scholar, Dr. Ghulam Abbas working as Manager at Ghazi Brothers after completing education with the help of Punjab Educational Endowment Fund presented a cheque for 67 thousand rupees to Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif at a meeting today and said that he has completed his education at Agriculture University Faisalabad. He said that PEEF Scholarship had changed his life and he is now in a position to return the scholarship amount so that maximum students could benefit from this fund. He said that he was returning half of the amount and will continue to pay 500 rupees per month to PEEF throughout his life. He said that Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif is not alone in his mission to educate talented students of poor families. The Chief Minister appreciated the spirit of Dr. Ghulam Abbas and said that though he had no need to return the scholarship but he has taken a decision which is an example and a lesson for politicians, bureaucrats, ministers and wealthy persons. He said that this spirit is essential for transforming Pakistan in accordance with the vision of Quaid and Iqbal. He said that Punjab Educational Endowment Fund has been set up to further this vision and Vice Chairman of PEEF Dr. Amjad Saqib, Provincial Minister, Secretary and Members of the Board deserve appreciation. He said achievements of PEEF Scholars have given hope that future of Pakistan is bright.

PEEF SCHOLARS PAY TRIBUTES TO REVOLUTIONARY STEP OF CHIEF MINISTER PUNJAB

               LAHORE (FNNI)  PEEF Scholars paid rich tributes to Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on launching Punjab Educational Endowment Fund. They said that by providing scholarships for education on merit basis through PEEF, Shehbaz Sharif provided educational opportunities to talented children of poor families like us and materialized dreams of their parents. Their dreams have been fulfilled through PEEF of Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, they added. PEFF scholar becoming a teacher after study through scholarships of Punjab Educational Endowment Fund, expressing views said that his father died when he was two years old and acquiring higher education was very difficult for him but PEEF assisted him. Had PEEF not helped him he would have been a laborer. He said that no one from his family went to college for education but he studied in university due to PEEF. Another PEEF scholar belonging to Sher Shah Multan said that it was the desire of his parents that he should get higher education but they have limited resources. Punjab Educational Endowment Fund materialized his dreams, he added. A woman PEEF scholar said that her father is a Postman and cannot afford expenditure of M. Phil but PEEF materialized her dream. A woman PEEF scholar belonging to Tehsil Rojhan district Rajanpur said that his father was a junior clerk and he can never get higher education through income of his pension but PEEF provided her opportunity upon which she is thankful to Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. Another PEEF scholar said that his father was a school teacher but due to his death, it was impossible for him to study. He undergone child labour and forced to work on a book center. He got scholarship from educational fund on acquiring good marks in middle examination, which changed his life and now he is getting higher education at LUMS through this fund and its credit goes to Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif. A PEEF scholar belonging to Nankana Sahib said that he belongs to a poor family and acquired education through scholarship of educational fund and now performing his duty as medical officer in Nankana Hospital. He said that it was not easy for him to get medical education but he crossed difficult phase of educational expenditure through PEEF. PEEF scholars termed Punjab Educational Endowment Fund as an excellent achievement of Punjab government and said that due to this fund, children of resource-less families are studying in prestigious educational institutions and appreciated this splendid program of Punjab government. They said that Punjab government provided them resources for meeting educational expenditure and they will return this loan of the nation and spare no effort in serving the country. They said that only due to this educational fund, talented students of poor families are studying in OXFORD, Cambridge, LUMS and other prestigious universities and they got opportunity of doing Ph. D.

                LAHORE (FNNI)  Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has congratulated Pakistani cricket team on the whitewash of world champion West Indies in T20 series. He said that Pakistani players have outclassed West Indies by displaying excellent performance in all the three matches of T20. He said that national cricket team has defeated world champions through excellent performance in batting, fielding and bowling and the victory in the series is a result of hard work, spirit and teamwork. The Chief Minister expressed the hope that Pakistani cricket team will continue to display the same performance in one-day internationals and test matches.

PEEF IS THE BIGGEST EDUCATIONAL FUND IN THE REGION: CHIEF MINISTER

PEEF SCHOLARS MEET SHEHBAZ SHARIF

LAHORE (FNNI) Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said that Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) is the biggest educational fund in the history of the region and helping more than 1.5 lakh resource-less but talented boy and girl students acquire modern education. He said that the target of provision of two lakh scholarship will soon be achieved. He said that the volume of the fund set up in 2008 with a sum of one billion rupees will reach 20 billion rupees this year. He said that talented and hardworking students showing good performance in educational field are pride of the nation. He said that it is a fact that the dream of progress and prosperity cannot be realized without equipping the new generation with modern knowledge. Shehbaz Sharif said that while children of the elite can get admission in prestigious educational institutions anywhere in the world, brilliant children of poor families who have a thirst for knowledge should also have opportunities of quality education. He said that Punjab government through setting up unique educational endowment fund in the history of the country is helping poor but brilliant students get modern education and a number of talented children of labourers and low-income families are studying at prestigious educational institutions like Oxford, Cambridge and LUMS with the help of this fund. He said that PEEF has become a symbol of national solidarity as boy and girl students of Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and other provinces are also being given scholarships.

The Chief Minister expressed these views during a meeting with PEEF Scholars, here today. Shehbaz Sharif said that he was pleased to meet PEEF Scholars who have shown outstanding performance in educational field. He said that scholarships are being given to boy and girl students purely on merit as it is the only way to progress and prosperity. He said that merit has been promoted in every sector for progress and development of the country. He said that a strict merit policy has been adopted in the provision of scholarships from PEEF and no one can dare make any Safarish. He said that PEEF is unprecedented in the region and is helping in realizing the dream of poor boy and girl students acquire higher education. He said that students benefiting from the educational fund are studying at educational institutions like Cambridge, Oxford and LUMS. The Chief Minister said that he firmly believes in merit as well as justice, hard work and honesty as these qualities are the biggest asset of a nation. He said that transparency in the affairs of PEEF is proved by the fact that talented students do not have to contact the fund for scholarships but the fund contacts low-income talented boy and girl students showing outstanding performance in educational field and letters are sent at their home address. He said that it is surprising in a society where merit has been flouted for decades. He said that students acquiring education with the help of PEEF scholarships are serving as doctors, engineers, teachers and bankers and proving their talent in different sectors of life. He said that young generation is talented and capable and will change the destiny of the nation and Pakistan will be able to achieve a dignified status at international level. The Chief Minister highly appreciated the performance of Vice Chairman, Board of Directors and the entire team of PEEF and prayed that the program may continue and benefit maximum number of brilliant students. He said that Pakistan will be able to achieve a respectable status in the comity of nations and the vision of Quaid and Iqbal will be realized. The PEEF Scholars while speaking on the occasion paid rich tributes to Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for launching Punjab Educational Endowment Fund and said that he had realized the dream of students of low-income families to get higher education. They said that they had got scholarships purely on merit and their families are grateful to Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif for launching this splendid program. Provincial Minister for Higher Education Begum Zakiya Shahnawaz, Bushra Anjum Butt MPA, Vice Chairman PEEF Dr. Amjad Saqib and Board of Directors of PEEF were also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister presided over 21st meeting of Board of Directors of PEEF which discussed various matters including performance of endowment fund and provision of scholarships to talented students on merit. Various matters relating to PEEF were also given approval on this occasion. The Chief Minister said that PEEF is a revolutionary programme of Punjab government and scholarships are given to talented boy and girl students of the whole country from this fund purely on merit basis. He said that scholarships of more than seven billion rupees have so far been awarded to talented students from the income of the fund. He said that PEEF Scholars acquiring education with the help of educational fund are serving the country in various sectors. He said that PEEF is an important step towards transforming Pakistan in accordance with the vision of Quaid and Iqbal. He said that talented students not only of Punjab but of other provinces are also benefiting from PEEF. He said that every penny of PEEF will be spent only on educational scholarships. Vice Chairman PEEF Dr. Amjad Saqib gave a briefing on educational fund. Provincial Minister for Higher Education Begum Zakiya Shahnawaz, Bushra Anjum Butt MPA, Vice Chairman PEEF and Board of Directors of the fund attended the meeting.

CM PRESIDES OVER MEETING REGARDING SETTING UP OF SUPPLY CHAIN AND MODEL FARMS LINKED WITH VALUE ADDITION

 Lahore (FNNI) Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said that government is implementing a comprehensive program for the development of agriculture sector and welfare of farmers and a historic package of one hundred billion rupees has been given for this purpose first time in the history of the country. He said that a program has also been evolved for providing interest-free loans to small cultivators through smart phones while the prices of Urea and DAP fertilizers have been reduced and a decrease of 3.5 rupees per unit has been made on power tariff. He issued instructions for initiating work on setting up supply chain and model farms linked with valued addition and said that this program can help in substantial progress in agriculture sector.

 He was speaking at a briefing by a prominent agriculture expert Hans Peter on the proposed program of supply chain and model farms linked with valued addition, here today. The Chief Minister said that agriculture is the backbone of national economy and use of modern technology can help in increase in per acre yield and tremendous development of this sector. He said that Punjab government has adopted a solid strategy for the uplift of agriculture sector and revolutionary measures have been taken for this purpose which will not only result in uplift of agriculture sector and prosperity of farmers but also in the strengthening of national economy. He said that billions of rupees have been allocated for the provision of interest-free loans and decrease in prices of fertilizers. The Chief Minister appreciated the project of model farms and said that it will result in increase in the income of cultivators and progress of agriculture sector. He gave instructions for starting pilot project for supply chain and model farms linked with value addition and directed to give final shape to proposals in this regard. Provincial Minister for Agriculture Dr. Farrukh Javed, Advisor Dr. Ijaz Nabi, Member Agriculture Commission Dr. Akmal Hussain, DG Trade Development Authority Pakistan, Secretary Finance, Secretary Agriculture and authorities concerned were present on the occasion.

Inter Provincial consultative meeting about Local Governance Participatory Development Planning & Budget Utilization held at Islamabad

Rawalpindi ( Bureau Report) Inter Provincial consultative meeting about Local Governance Participatory Development Planning & Budget Utilization held at Islamabad on Wednesday under the auspices of United Nations Development Programme Pakistan (UNDP) & German Cooperation (GIZ). The prominent among others Secretary Local Government and Rural Development KPK Syed Jamal ud Din Shah, Director Local Government and Community Development Punjab Shahid Nasir Raja, Director  Mian Najeeb Aslam, representatives from Sindh, Balochistan, Local Government Departments, Dieter Wolkewiz ,  Taimoor Javed from UNDP, Joern  Richter from German Development Collaboration, Adil Walker, Christian Kapfensteriner and Shakeel Imtiaz representing GIZ , Sara Aslam and Azeem Cheema attended the consultative meeting who shared successful models of local bodies governances systems of their respective provinces and also proposed suggestions and recommendations to improve the system. They were of the view that capacity building training is vital for new local bodies’ representatives to effectively design development schemes at grass root level. Similarly, it is equally important to train them about how to frame budget and utilize the allocated funds according to the prescribed rules and regulations. The participants of Inter Provincial Local Governance Participating Development Planning and Budget utilization also deliberate on evolving effective monitoring mechanism at local council level to ensure transparency and judicious utilization of funds and prepare development schemes according to the requirements of people. Syed Jamal ud Din Shah and Shahid Nasir Raja spoke about the practices in KPK and Punjab Provinces. The participants termed consultative meeting on very important topic useful for all stakeholders which would enable them to ensure smooth working of local bodies system in the country. The key speakers talked about integrated participatory development planning and budgeting in annual development plans at all tiers of local governments in different sessions.

Motorway Police organized a Road Safety Seminar

Islamabad  ( Bureau Report) National Highways and Motorway Police organized a Special Road Safety Seminar for Deaf and Dumb students at Special Education Center H-9 Islamabad. The objective behind this initiative was to create awareness among special children regarding Road Safety Tips i-e, Parking Rules, use of Seat Belt, Hazards of Over speeding, and advantages of use of safety helmet by motorcyclists.

Inspector Shahida Yasmeen and Inspector Saqib Waheed while addressing the seminar emphasized upon the importance of awareness of Road Safety Rules among special children as they are also an integral part of the society. For this noble cause Motorway Police will continue its unrelenting efforts.

The Seminar was attended by students and member of civil society The Chief Guest of the occasion Aftab Ahmed Director National Special Education Center for Hearing impaired children Islamabad in his Closing address pay his thankful remarks for Motorway Police for organizing the seminar with special children. At the end Motorway Police officers answered the questions of the children regarding Road Safety and Road Safety Pamphlets were distributed among the participants .
