UAE Ambassador eyes €20 billion export potential in Pakistan’s Dairy Sector – Fnni.org

Islamabad (FNNI) The Ambassador of United Arab Emirates H.E. Mr. Essa Abdullah Al Basha Al Noaimi said that if developed on modern lines, Pakistan’s dairy sector has the potential to promote €20 billion exports of dairy products to Europe and other countries. He said UAE considered Pakistan an important country of the Muslim world and wanted to further enhance bilateral trade with it. He said this while addressing business community at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry.  He said under UAE’s Pakistan Assistance Program, 165 projects were launched in Pakistan in health, education, infrastructure development and other areas that would mitigate the problems of Pakistani people.Graphic1He said UAE was going to organize first international level “Expo 2020” in which 80 countries would participate and about 50 million people would visit this event. He invited Pakistani business community to participate in that Expo and explore new business opportunities. He said businessmen could set up pavilions or hire space in that Expo. He said about 600 Pakistani companies were doing successful business in free economic zones of UAE while about 1.1 million Pakistanis were contributing to its economic development. He assured that UAE would continue to assist Pakistan for its better economic development.

In his welcome address, Khalid Iqbal Malik, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that Pakistan and UAE enjoyed cordial relations while bilateral trade between the two countries in 2014 was around $9 billion. However, he said the two-way trade was still less than the actual potential of both countries.  He said UAE’s bilateral trade in 2015-16 with one of our neighbors was over $50 billion which showed that Pakistan and UAE have great potential to improve the trade figure. He stressed that both countries should focus on promoting strong connectivity between their private sectors to further enhance bilateral trade.

Khalid Iqbal Malik said that UAE extended generous support to Pakistan for better health and education facilities which were laudable. He said UAE had launched Pakistan Assistance Program in 2011 for building schools, colleges, and hospitals which were highly appreciable. He said that there were tremendous investment opportunities for UAE’s investors in various sectors of Pakistan’s economy including infrastructure development, power generation, water management, agro-industries. He said that both countries have good prospects to start joint ventures in many areas including aluminum products, horticulture, farming, dairy farming, livestock, financial sector, prefabricated houses and affordable low-income houses. He said cooperation between SMEs of Pakistan and UAE could fetch more beneficial results for both countries. Islamabad (FNNI) Lithuania was keen to promote bilateral trade and economic relations with Pakistan as it considered Pakistan a promising country for business relations. This was observed by H. E. Mr. Audrius Bruzga, Ambassador of Lithuania to Pakistan-based in Turkey while addressing business community at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He was accompanied by Muhammad Masud Khan, Honorary Consul General of Lithuania in Pakistan and Mrs. Kristina Babiciene, Second Secretary of Lithuanian Embassy.Pic-March-18,-17He said Lithuania was a well-integrated with the European Union and it wanted to reach out to Pakistan for more cooperation in multiple fields. He said Lithuania had advanced technology and expertise in solar energy while it was generating more than 56% of its energy through renewable sources. He said Lithuania could help Pakistan in overcoming its energy crisis. He said ICCI should form a delegation for Lithuania to explore new areas of mutual cooperation.

Speaking at the occasion, Khalid Malik, Senior Vice President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Lithuania were established in 1994 and both countries have held many consultations to improve bilateral relations in many areas including economic, trade, investment, education, science & technology. However, he said bilateral trade between Pakistan and Lithuania was negligible as there was no direct interaction between private sectors of both countries. He stressed that Pakistan and Lithuania should focus on the frequent exchange of trade delegations and market information to explore new avenues of mutual cooperation.

He identified textiles, furniture, food processing, petroleum refining, chemicals, agriculture machinery, electronics, information technology and medical science as potential areas of bilateral cooperation between both countries. He said to realize the actual potential of mutual collaboration, both countries should work on establishing direct links between their private sectors. He said Lithuania was doing more than 80 percent of its total trade with EU and Central Asian countries. He urged that Lithuania should enhance its imports from Pakistan as many Pakistan products could meet the needs of its consumers at competitive prices.

He said Pakistan was offering lucrative incentives to foreign investors in various sectors of its economy while CPEC was going to create many new opportunities for foreign investors in Pakistan. He emphasized that Lithuanian investors should be persuaded to explore Pakistan and joint ventures and investment.

Muhammad Masud Khan Honorary Consul General of Lithuania in Pakistan said that Lithuania has achieved remarkable progress as it transformed itself from an agriculture to high tech economy within a short span of 27 years. He said Pakistan could learn a lot from Lithuania for improving its economy. Mrs. Kristina Babiciene, Second Secretary of Lithuanian Embassy gave a detailed presentation on the economy of Lithuania. It was highlighted that Lithuania has set up 7 free economic zones for investment and foreign investors were given attractive tax incentives.

29 member Chinese delegation visits ICCI to explore business collaborations – Fnni.org

Islamabad (FNNI) A 29 member delegation of Chinese companies representing various provinces of China visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry led by Mr. Yin Lin Bing, Secretary General, Worldwide Business Culture Exchange Centre. Mr. Wang Zihai, President, Pak-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry also accompanied the delegation. The delegation was representing various sectors including power generation, manufacturers of transformers and electrical equipment, hydropower construction, transport, automobile, textile & clothing,  food processing, mechanical & electrical trade, construction & real estate development, ship management services, mining machinery, pharmaceuticals, service industry and others. Speaking at the occasion, Yin Lin Bing, Secretary General, Worldwide Business Culture Exchange Centre (WBCEC) of China said that in pursuit of Chinese President’s One Belt One Road strategy, WBCEC was taking Chinese business delegations to various countries. He said so far WBCEC has taken Chinese delegations to 29 countries and signed contracts and MoUs of more than US$ 50 billion. He said Chinese investors considered Pakistan a potential country for business and have come here to explore opportunities for JVs and investment. He said both countries have good potential to cooperate in pharmaceuticals, transport, industrial parks and many other areas. He hoped that their visit would contribute to further strengthen cooperation between Pakistan and China. He stressed that ICCI should also take its delegation to China to explore new areas of mutual cooperation.

He stressed that Chinese investors should bring technology and set up joint ventures with Pakistani counterparts in areas of interest. FAISALABAD (FNNI) Spade work has been initiated to enhance the trade volume between Pakistan and Belarus up to one billion US dollar and in this connection the central banks of both countries have already inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and now steps are being taken to open bank branches accordingly, said His Excellency Mr. Andrei Ermolovich Ambassador of Belarus.

 Addressing the members of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) here today, he said that two countries are enjoying good diplomatic and economic relations and its 100 percent credit goes to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President of Belarus Mr. Alexander Lukashenko. He said that under their instructions various institutions are taking necessary measures to achieve this objective. He said that initially various sectors have been identified in which bilateral cooperation could be enhanced. “Among these sectors include industrial, agricultural, textile, pharmaceutical and other sectors in which there was huge untapped potential for the benefit of two countries”, he added.

Continuing, Mr. Andrei Ermolovich said that banking system is the prerequisite to undertaking major bargains and in this connection, a mutually acceptable banking system is being evolved with the active cooperation of central banks of two countries. He also mentioned the importance of bilateral trade delegations and told that business community of Pakistan should actively participate in different trade exhibitions and fairs being organized in Belarus. He told that Belarus was organizing an agricultural and textile fair during this year and Pakistani exporters must participate in it. He termed University of Agriculture (UAF) Faisalabad as a prestigious and world-class educational and research institution and Belarus intends to sign MoUs between UAF and NTU (National Textile University) with the respective universities of his country. He told that he has handed over a draft of MoU to the Vice Chancellors of these universities and hopefully these MoUs would be inked during this year. He said that Belarus is technologically developed country and its trucks and agriculture appliances are acknowledged all over the world. He said that in Pakistan only 10 percent cultivation is made through machines and with enhanced use of agricultural appliances Pakistan could increase its productivity manifold.Mr. Jurabek Kirgizbekov representative of Belarus Chamber of Commerce and Industry told that his country could help Pakistan in the production of powdered milk, ice cream, yogurt, animal husbandry and canned products. He told that Belarus in included in a five-country alliance which had no well-marked boundaries. He said that Pakistani exporters could establish their warehouses in Belarus and from there; they could make exports to these surrounding countries without any additional customs duty or taxes. Similarly, visa issued by one country is also acceptable in all the five countries. Hence, we have to take extra care while issuing visas for Belarus. He further told that many international airlines have flights to different central Asian states and we are also considering starting direct flights between Pakistan and Belarus. He said that Pakistani exporters should participate in the exhibitions in Belarus as it will help them to cultivate good relations with their counterparts in Belarus.Earlier, in his welcome address, President FCCI Engineer Mohammad Saeed Sheikh said that Faisalabad is the third largest city in Pakistan while it is second in revenue generation.

He told that FCCI has more than 5000 members within its fold who belong to almost all segments of industry and trade. He told that textile is the main strength of Faisalabad and hence it is publically known as the textile capital of Pakistan.

Continuing, Engineer Mohammad Saeed Sheikh told that Pakistan and Belarus are enjoying good diplomatic and economic relations. He told that volume of our bilateral trade was around 63.6 Million Dollars during 2016. Pakistan made exports worth 13.28 Million to Belarus while imports from Belarus stood at 50.28 Million US Dollars during the same period. Thus the balance of trade is in favor of Belarus, he added.

He particularly mentioned fourth Joint Trade & Business forum of Pakistan and Belarus in which many agreements and MoU’s were inked and said that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was optimistic in view of these agreements that our bilateral trade will grow steadily up to one Billion Dollars. He further told that there are also vast prospects of joint ventures in textile, agro-based industry, heavy machinery, automotive, leather goods and information technology.

He stressed the need for the exchange of trade delegations and regular organization of exhibitions to give a quantum jump to the bilateral trade. He floated a proposal that Belarus government should allow Pakistani exporters to establish their warehouses in Belarus.

He asked the ambassador to facilitate FCCI trade delegation to Belarus for an extensive interaction with the business community of Belarus.

 Two separate documentaries of FCCI and Belarus were screened while vice president Engineer Ahmad Hasan, Muhammad Sultan, Chaudhary Muhammad Asghar and Engineer Ahsan took part in the question answer session.

Later, President FCCI Engineer Mohammad Saeed Sheikh presented FCCI shield to Mr. Andrei Ermolovich ambassador of Belarus. LAHORE (FNNI) A students’ delegation from Harvard University, a renowned American educational institution, called on Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif here today. While talking to the delegation, the Chief Minister said that in Quaid-e-Azam’s Pakistan there is no room for terrorism and extremism. The civil and military leadership are on the same page in the fight against terrorism. Pakistan has made significant sacrifices in battling terrorism. The terrorists have no religion as they are killers of humanity. We will leave no stone unturned to eliminate terrorism from the country, he added. Democracy is to serve people. Democracy is the second name of transparency and accountability. Our government has adopted a zero tolerance against corruption and our work and initiatives are ample proof of our government’s transparency. The Chief Minister said the Punjab government is the most transparent government of Pakistan and the international institutions have accepted it as well. CM Punjab-1We never tolerated any kind of favoritism, red-tapism and corruption. The PML-N government has made transparency its chief characteristic. Our priorities are clear and in the right direction. I am the servant of people of this province and to serve them is my mission. The Chief Minister said that more funds have been allocated for the progress and development of South Punjab divisions in proportion to the population. Provision of 100 billion interest-free loans program for small agriculturists is also for the progress, development and strengthening of rural areas and their economy. In Lahore, the work on Punjab Safe City Project is going on fast and besides this the Safe City Project will also be introduced in other 6 big cities of the province. The enrollment of students in government schools has increased to 90 per cent. Within 8 years, 2 lac 20 thousand teachers have been appointed on merit basis. The Chief Minister said that unfortunately there had been political appointments in the past but the incumbent government has totally banned political appointments. In the present year, 80 thousand more teachers will be appointed on merit basis in which 50 per cent will be female teachers. Child labour has been eliminated from brick kilns and 83 thousand children have been released from child labour and enrolled in schools. The Punjab government is also providing monthly stipends, uniforms, shoes and books to these children whereas the parents are also given one-time stipend. The Chief Minister said that in South Punjab divisions, from Rs 200 stipend has been increased to Rs 1000 for the students from 6th to 10th class and from this program 4 lac 80 thousand students are getting benefit and the Rs 6 billion are being spent on this. Daanish schools have been established in South Punjab and other backward regions. The Chief Minister said that Pakistan came into existence after making many sacrifices under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the constitution of Pakistan gives equal rights to all citizens irrespective of their color or race. Pakistan was achieved so that citizens living in Pakistan might have equal opportunities. The Chief Minister said that unfortunately in the 1980s, Pakistan was made a front line state in the so-called war due to which terrorism and extremism took birth in the country but now the civil and military leadership is fighting with strength and vigor against the terrorists and other non-state actors. In order to bring back the real recognition of Pakistan, we have to spread religious tolerance, brotherhood and unity. The Chief Minister said that government is leaving no stone unturned to eliminate poverty and unemployment in the country. The Chief Minister said that half of Pakistan’s population comprises of women and women have to prove their capabilities in practical fields because without women participating in the practical field Pakistan cannot progress and develop and for this the Punjab government has started an interest free loans program for women. The Chief Minister said that from this program up till now 15 lac women have been given interest free loans and in the upcoming budget more funds will be given to interest free loan programs. The Chief Minister said that women from rural areas of Pakistan are very hard working as they work side by side with men in farms and fields. The Chief Minister said that Punjab government has taken revolutionary steps for the promotion of education and because of these initiatives enrollment of students in schools have increased to 90 per cent. The Chief Minister said that 25 lac students got admission in schools due to Voucher Scheme of Punjab Education Foundation. Daanish schools have been established in South Punjab and other backward divisions. In Daanish schools, quality education is given to students from underprivileged families. The Chief Minister said that additional classrooms are being constructed in schools at the cost of billions of rupees. Twenty thousand schools have been shifted on solar system and this program is being started from South Punjab. Likewise, Information Technology labs have been set up in 5 thousand high schools of Punjab and laptops have been distributed among the students on merit basis at the cost of billion of rupees. The Chief Minister said that resources are being provided in order to empower youth. The Punjab government is following equal development policy for rural and urban areas of the province. The Punjab government has provided billions of rupees funds for the progress and development of South Punjab divisions and other far-flung areas. The Metro Bus Service has been started in Multan. The Chief Minister said that the vision and policies of government are for the benefit of people and our every step is for the welfare and prosperity of masses. Pakistan is a beautiful country and in order to recognize Pakistan at the global level, Pakistan has to be economically independent. Pakistan is moving in the right direction and INSHAALLAH Pakistan will soon become a great country. We will return Pakistan its lost status. The Chief Minister asked the students from Harvard University to visit Pakistan every year. The delegation was led by MD PACRA Qazi Adnan Afaq. He said PM Health Insurance Scheme is working in four districts of Punjab and later it will be expanded to the whole province and the Punjab government will spend Rs12 billion on it. He said under this program 80 lakh people from the poor families will get free medical aid besides more than 57 lakh women and children will also benefit from this program. He said education and standardized health facilities are the right of the citizens of Punjab and the provincial government is giving them this right. He said had the PEEF been initiated 70 years ago, the children who had lost their bright future in the dust of streets had been able to play an active role in the development of the country. He said now if thousands of boys and girls cannot become engineers, doctors, professors, and teachers due to the shortage of resources, then the aristocracy of the country will be responsible for it. He said the state is responsible for providing education to the youth, but unfortunately politicians, upper-class class and powerful class of the country did not allow changing the fate of the country and plundered resources due to which thousands of the youth could not brighten their future and the country’s aristocracy is responsible for it and he is also part it. He said developed nations of today have made progress through the promotion of education. He said the prime minister, he, Imran Khan, all politicians, traders, and judges should make themselves duty bound that they will play their role in providing same education as they provide to their children and this is the only way forward.

Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed these views while addressing a ceremony held at the Aiwan-e-Iqbal in connection with Women’s International Day. Provincial Ministers Begum Zakia Shahnawaz, Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Hameeda Waheed Ud Din, Naghma Mushtaq, Women Parliamentarians, Women Vice-Chancellors, Principals, Teachers and the women belonging to fields of life attended the ceremony. Addressing the ceremony, the Chief Minister said the object of Women’s International Day is to review steps taken for the development of the women folk. He said the PML-N government under the leadership of PM Nawaz Sharif has taken a historic step for the empowerment of women, protection of their rights and inheritance rights. He said in the 70s Pakistan was ahead of many countries economically and Pakistan’s currency was strong against Indian currency. He said we forgot principals of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal due to which those nations have left us behind them. Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif mentioned a woman who got interested free loan of Rs. 15000 to establish an academy and said if that woman had not got a loan from a bank and she could not return this amount due to some reason then a FIR would have been launched against her. He said, on the other hand, there are car owners, owners of factories and luxury houses who have swallowed loans of billions of rupees of the nation and are now delivering sermons of honesty and against corruption. He said the richest of the rich has deprived the common of their rights by engulfing hefty loans. He said nobody holds accountable to those who have deprived the poor, resource-less of their rights. He said the national wealth has been plundered mercilessly during the last 70 years and the nation cannot make progress without transparency accountability. He said prime minister, chief ministers, ministers, judges, generals, traders, politicians, and all of us should have to implement the transparent system of accountability upon ourselves and this is the only way forward for the nation. He said we do not need the help of anybody because our religion and life of Holy Prophet (PBUH) have given us methods to move forward. He said the prime minister health insurance scheme has been launched in four districts of the province and by the end of this year, the scope of this scheme will be expanded to the whole province. He said the Punjab government will spend Rs12 billion for this scheme to provide best medical health facilities to the poor. He said from this scheme 80 lakh people will benefit. He said during the last eight years two lakh and 20 thousand teachers have been recruited on merit. He said he says on oath no even a single teacher has been recruited in violation of merit. He said in Punjab there is merit, merit, and only merit and this was the vision of Quaid-e-Azam. He said 80,000 more teachers will be recruited this year again and President, Prime Minister, Chief Minister, Ministers and Lawmakers cannot get recruited anybody in violation of merit. He said as merit and discipline are respected in armed forces in the same way here merit and discipline are also respected and kept supreme. He said out of 80,000 new teachers 30,000 will be science teachers. He said corruption should be eliminated for the provision of facilities to the people. He said the Punjab government has launched Metro Bus on which lawyers, teachers, widows, orphans, nurses, doctors, and clerks can travel and those called it ‘jangla bus service’ had launched this jungle bus service during their term then he had welcomed them and believed that they have resolved to provide best transport facilities to the people. He said the Punjab government decided to hold the final of the PSL despite reservations and PSL final was held on March 5 at Qaddafi stadium successfully that is a slap in the face of opponents of Pakistan and enemies of peace. He said we are proceeding forward to resolve problems and can sacrifice our lives for the motherland. He said we will work for the development and progress in the country till the last drop of blood.

            Provincial Minister Hameeda Waheed Ud Din said unprecedented steps have been taken for the welfare and empowerment of the women under the leadership of the Chief Minister.

LAHORE (FNNI) Deputy Chief of Mission of US Embassy, Jonathan Pratt called on Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, here today to discuss matters of mutual interest, promotion of bilateral ties and enhancement of cooperation in various sectors. He praised the decision to hold the final match of PSL in Lahore and called it the best step. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that final match of PSL is a mega event and decision to hold it in Lahore was taken after consulting all institutions. He said peaceful environment will be ensured during the final match of PSL and for this purpose, best security arrangements have been put in place.CM Punjab-2Shehbaz Sharif said that the Pakistani nation has strong determination to eliminate terrorism and holding off final match of PSL is a strong message to terrorists that there is no room for extremist mindset in Pakistan of Quaid-e-Azam. He said the nation has given unprecedented sacrifices in the war against terrorism. He said multidimensional bilateral ties exist between Pakistan and USA, and it is hoped that these relations will strengthen in future. CM REVIEWS PROGRESS ON 3600MW GAS POWER PROJECTS – Fnni.org

LAHORE  (FNNI) A high-level meeting held under Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif here today to review progress on 3600MW gas power projects. Chief Executive for Energy Division of German Company Lahmeyer Michael and other experts attended the meeting. Addressing the meeting, CM Shehbaz Sharif said work is in progress on several power projects to overcome energy crisis and gas-powered energy projects will be complete in time. He said 3600MW gas power projects will end load-shedding and the people will get cheap electricity.
