LAHORE (FNNI) Ugandan Minister of State for Foreign and International Affairs, Okello Henry Oryem met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and paid rich tributes to him on speedy completion of projects for the progress of the province and prosperity of the people. Talking to Shehbaz Sharif, the Ugandan Minister told that senior officers of Chinese companies working in railway sector of Africa also mentioned Shehbaz Sharif as Punjab Speed and told that Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is the second name of speed, quality and transparency. He said that these Chinese companies are working on the projects of improving railway system in African countries including Uganda and Kenya. He said that undoubtedly, he has witnessed Punjab Speed, mentioned by Chinese companies in Africa during his visit to Punjab and he is very happy that he has witnessed Punjab Speed personally. The Minister said that vision of Shehbaz Sharif for progress and prosperity of Punjab is excellent and speed unprecedented. That is why the term Punjab Speed has reached Africa from China and it is a proof to his extraordinary performance that Chinese companies working in Africa also mention his name with great respect in connection with speedy completion of projects in Pakistan, he added. He said that Punjab has made tremendous progress in different fields and we seek cooperation of Punjab government in agriculture, education, urban development and planning sectors and want to benefit from expertise and skills of Punjab. He also invited Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to visit Uganda. Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on this occasion said that Punjab government is ready to extend cooperation to Uganda in agriculture, education, urban development and planning sectors. He said that Punjab government has taken several revolutionary steps in the development of agriculture, promotion of education and urban planning sectors. He said that it will be a matter of pleasure for us to assist Uganda in these sectors. Ugandan Ambassador for Pakistan Dr. M. Kisule, Provincial Minister for Finance Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Chairman Chief Minister’s Taskforce on Information & Culture Muhammad Malik, Haroon Shaukat of Punjab Investment Board, Secretary Agriculture and senior authorities were present on the occasion.

LAHORE (FNNI) A delegation of Chinese investors met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and expressed keen interest in investment in industrial sector in Punjab. Chinese investors showed willingness in setting up of a state-of-the-art industrial zone in Punjab and said that they want to develop a big industrial zone in Punjab, which include establishment of various industries. Talking to the Chinese delegation, the Chief Minister said that Pak-China relations have converted into useful economic cooperation after China Pakistan Economic Corridor. He said that CPEC has opened new chapters of Pak-China friendship. China is investing 46 billion dollars in Pakistan under CPEC and Chinese investment will increase with the passage of time, he added. He said that there are vast opportunities of investment in Punjab and Punjab government has provided a conducive atmosphere for the promotion of investment. Shehbaz Sharif said that all out facilities and incentives are being given to Chinese investors in connection with investment. He welcomed the decision of Chinese investors regarding setting up of industrial zone and said that all possible facilities will be provided to Chinese investors in this regard. Sun Tao, head of a renowned Chinese group was leading the delegation. Chinese Counsel General Yu Borne, Provincial Minister for Industries Ch. Muhammad Shafiq, Chairman Planning & Development Jehanzeb Khan, Haroon Shaukat of Punjab Investment Board, Secretary Industries and Chairman PEDMIC were also present on the occasion.

CDA Union to support in resolving issues of trade and industry – Fnni.org

Islamabad (FNNI) A delegation of CDA Union led by its Secretary General Ch. Muhammad Yasin and President Auragzeb visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry to congratulate the new office bearers and assured support for resolving the CDA related issues of trade and industry.

Addressing the delegation, Khalid Iqbal Malik, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that maximum problems of business community were related to CDA and better cooperation of the civic body was essential to facilitate the growth of business activities. He said Union should act as a bridge between CDA and ICCI for resolving key issues of entrepreneurs.

He said new Chairman CDA Sheikh Anser Aziz was a businessman and business community has lot of expectations from him. He said CDA Union should cooperate with its Chairman so that he could deliver up to the expectations. He said role of CDA employees was important in improving the performance of the civic body and assured that ICCI would support the efforts aimed at protection of legal rights of CDA employees.

Ch. Muhammad Yasin said that business community was playing key role in the development of the city and assured that CDA Union would cooperate in redress of its issues. He said many departments of CDA have been transferred to Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation in hurry while all stakeholders should have been taken on board before doing this.

Aurangzeb, President CDA Union said that transfer of CDA employees to IMC has put at stake the future of 15000 CDA employees as this action has created lot of concerns in employees. He said CDA Union would support inclusion of sitting ICCI President in CDA Board and said that ICCI should also support our efforts for protection of employees’ rights.

Khalid Malik Senior Vice President, Tahir Ayub Vice President ICCI and Khalid Javed Chairman Founder Group also addressed the meeting and urged that CDA Union should play positive role in resolving problems of trade and Industry. They also assured their support for protection of legal rights of CDA employees.

Local poets paid rich tribute to Hazarat Imam Hussain (RA) and their followers who sacrifices their lives for Islam. Mrs. Tahira Auranzeb Member National Assembly was also present on the occasion. She added that the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and their followers for Islam will always be remembered in golden words. The blood of the Martyrs of Karbala gives the message of peace which proves that truth will be alive for ever. Naheed Manzoor and Waqar Ahmed Resident Director, RAC also high lights the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain and their followers in Karbalah. The Mehfil-e-Musalma will be preside over by famous poet of the twin cities Prof. Dr. Munawar Hashmi. The host of the Mehfil-e-Musalma was the famous poetess Farzan Naz. LAHORE (FNNI) Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has announced interest-free loans worth 100 billion rupees for small cultivators. The interest on these loans will be paid by a Punjab government. He said that lakhs of farmers will benefit from this unique and splendid program in the history of the country. He said that interest-free loans will be distributed among small farmers through modern technology. The Chief Minister said that the historic program of provision of interest-free loans of Rs.100 billion for the development of agriculture sector and prosperity of farmers will bring about a socio-economic and green revolution in the country. He said that agriculture is backbone of national economy and a guarantee to national prosperity and increase in exports besides being a source of earning foreign exchange. He said that prosperity of farmers will result in prosperity of Pakistan and strengthening of national economy. He said that revolutionary program started by the government for the uplift of farmers, promotion of agriculture sector and increase in per acre yield will realize the dream of agriculture progress. He said that though the former rulers were associated with agriculture but they paid no attention to the development of this sector. He said that the historic decision of provision of interest free loans of 100 billion rupees has been taken by Punjab government in the tenure of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. Shehbaz Sharif said that due to this step of the government, the sit-ins on Mall Road will now stop and the farmers should now distribute sweets as the Punjab government has given this package for the prosperity of small cultivators. He said that those sit-ins should also now come to an end as undermine national interests.

                        The Chief Minister expressed these views while addressing the signing ceremony of agreements between Punjab government and banks with regard to provision of interest free loans to small cultivators at Chief Minister’s office, here today. Secretary Agriculture Muhammad Mehmood, President National Bank of Pakistan Iqbal Ashraf, Executive Vice President Zarai Taraqiati Bank Riaz-ud-Din, Chief Executive Officer National Rural Support ProgrameDr. Rashid Bajwa and President Tameer Bank Ali Riaz Chaudhary signed the documents. Provincial Ministers Dr. Farrukh Javed, Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Deputy Governor State Bank of Pakistan Saeed Ahmad, Chief Secretary, bankers, agri experts, farmers’ representatives, intellectuals and columnists participated in the ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that agriculture has key importance in national economy. He said that farmers and agri economy suffered a loss during last three years, rice and cotton crop was damaged while recession in international markets also affected the local farmers. He said that in view of the losses suffered by cultivators, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif gave a big package of Rs.40 billion and Punjab government contributed 50 percent share. He said that a compensation of Rs.5000 per acre was given to small farmers for losses caused to rice and cotton crops. He said that federal government announced a big agriculture package in the budget this year as well which is being speedily implemented. He said that small cultivators are fully benefiting from reduction in the prices of fertilizers and in power tariff on agri tube-well. He said that Punjab government has also given its share of 50 percent in this package besides also announced historic package of 100 billion rupees for the development of agriculture sector. The Chief Minister said that implementation of the package of Rs.50 billion has been started this year while agreement has been signed with the banks for the programme of provision of interest-free loans of Rs.100 billion. He said that it has been the point of view of cultivators that loans are given to industries and investors at the interest rate of 8 to 9 while percent these are given to cultivators at the rate of 16 percent. He said that the farmers have been demanding that loans should be given to them on 8 to 9 percent interest rate as well while the government has evolved the program of provision of interest free loans to small cultivators. He said that Punjab government itself is bearing the burden of interest on the loans given to small cultivators. He said that besides small cultivators, tenants will also benefit from this program as have no land of their own. He said that this program of the government will rid the farmers of exploitation by middle man as well as the existing cruel system. Addressing the bankers present at the function, the Chief Minister said that bankers always think before extending loans that it should be given to a wealthy person who can repay the loan while the history is witness to the fact that it has been elite as have got loans of billions of rupees written off and not those who earn their livelihood through hard work. Shehbaz Sharif said that loans worth 25 billion rupees have been distributed among 11 lakh persons under Khadim-e-Punjab Rozgar Scheme and their rate of recovery is 99.9 percent. He said that no country can progress without promoting small business and the developed countries have also progressed through adopting this program. He said that there is a need to move speedily towards this end. Referring to Khadim-e-Punjab Rural Roads Program, the Chief Minister said that Pakkian Sarkan Sukhay Panday program is continuing successfully for the last two years and a sum of Rs.60 billion has been spent on this program of construction and rehabilitation of rural roads. He said that carpeted roads are being constructed in villages first time in the history of the country. He said that this program of construction and rehabilitation of roads will change rural economy. Similarly, he said that the biggest potable water program has been started in the history of the country and this project has been initiated from south Punjab. He said that a sum of Rs.30 billion is being spent on this program this year. He said that international companies are coming for implementation of this program and German and European consultant monitoring implementation process. He said that water supply and drainage schemes in the past could not be successful but the schemes started by Punjab government will run successfully as the companies which are starting these schemes will operate them for five years and also train the rural youth for this purpose. The Chief Minister congratulated Provincial Minister for Agriculture, Secretary Agriculture, Chief Secretary and their entire team for evolving the programe of provision of interest-free loans to small cultivators and also thanked financial institutions for their collaboration. He said that this programe will bring about an agri revolution and Pakistan will be able to achieve a dignified status in the comity of nations. It may be mentioned that initially interest-free loans of Rs. 77 billion where to be given to small cultivators but Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif enhanced this amount to Rs. 100 billion. Provincial Minister for Agriculture Dr. Farrukh Javed while addressing the ceremony said that the programe of provision of interest-free loans will bring a soft revolution and change lifestyle of rural people. He said that android mobile phones will also be given to the cultivators through which they will remain in contact with as well as benefit from extension services through this phone. Provincial Finance Minister Ayesha Ghaus Pahsa said that development of agriculture sector will result in strengthening of national economy. She said that the program started by Punjab government for the prosperity of small cultivators will be made successful with the collaboration of financial institutions. Secretary Agriculture Muhammad Mehmood gave details of the program. He said that loans will be given to small farmers at the annual rate of 65000 rupees per acre for Kharif and Rabi crops. Interest-free loan will be given in three installments. He said that Khadim-e-Punjab Agriculture Endowment Fund has been set up with a sum of two billion rupees which will benefit thousands of cultivators. Chief Executive Officer Telenor and Chief Executive Officer of Tameer Bank informed about implementation of the program.

Rawalpindi (FNNI) Religious leaders and speakers from different schools of thought at a seminar on “Moharram ul Harram and National Harmony” have stressed the need of promoting interfaith harmony among the followers of different sects and faiths to foil the evil designs of miscreants. They also vowed to work together to promote culture of tolerance, tranquility and peaceful coexistence.

The seminar was organized by Directorate of Public Relations, Government of the Punjab Rawalpindi Division with the collaboration of Anjuman Faizul Islam(AFI) in the auditorium of AFI. Among those who spoke the well-attended seminar are included Pir Syed Izhar Bukhari, Allama Syed Zahid Abbas Naqvi, Pir Azmat Sultan, Director Public Relations Hamid Javed Awan, ex-director Public Relations Sana Ullah Akhtar, Campus Manager of AFI Mohammad Aslam.

Pir Allama Izhar Bukhar, while highlighting the significance of the great sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions, appealed people belonging to different faiths to shun their differences and promote tolerance, unity, and peace among them. He further added that the country is being faced with internal and external threats by anti-state elements, which should be eliminated by forging unity among their ranks.

Allama Zahid Abbas Naqvi said to defeat the nefarious designs of our enemies; we must promote unity and brotherhood during the Muharram ul Harram. “To promote interfaith harmony among the different sects and faiths of Muslim, all ulemas and Mashaikhs should shoulder the responsibilities and extend full cooperation with administration to maintain law and order during the entire month of Muharram.

Pir Azmat Sultan in his address stressed the need of recognizing the evil plans of non-Muslims who wanted to shatter our unity to achieve their goals. “We can make the enemies fail by practicing and following the footsteps of “Shuhda e Karbala” who sacrificed their live for upholding the truth”, he mentioned. He also expressed satisfaction regarding overall security arrangements for protection of mourning processions during the Muharram.

Yasir Butt, Hamid Javed Awan, Sana Ullah Akhtar and Mohammad Aslam also spoke on the occasion and admired the Punjab government for its timely steps to mobilize Ittehad Bainul Muslimeen and Peace committee to create interfaith and sectarian harmony.

Islamabad (FNNI) A delegation of National Press Club (NPC), Islamabad visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry led by its Acting President Naveed Akbar Chaudhry and congratulated the newly elected office bearers of the Chamber. They assured full cooperation for highlighting the issues of business community for redress. NPC Management Committee Chairman Amir Butt, Vice President Shakeela Jalil, Secretary General Imran Dhilo and others were in the delegation.

Addressing the delegation, Khalid Iqbal Malik, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that media was playing very important role in raising the issues of the economy for the attention of the government which was laudable. He said NPC should fully cooperate with ICCI in highlighting the key issues of business community for redress that will help in creating better conditions for the growth of business activities and improving the economy.

He said our country was passing through a difficult phase as the armed forces were facing challenges at borders. However, he reassured that the whole business community of the country was standing with the armed forces at this critical time and was ready to make every sacrifice in case of any emergency situation. Khalid Malik Senior Vice President and Tahir Ayub Vice President ICCI stressed for close cooperation between Chamber and NPC for the development of of a conducive business environment. They said both organizations have common objectives to serve the cause of their members and they should make joint efforts for achieving common goals.

Speaking at the occasion, Naveed Akbar Chaudhry, Acting President, National Press Club Islamabad said that business community was playing an important role in promoting business activities and NPC will extend its better cooperation for highlighting key issues of trade and industry. Both sides discussed problems being faced by the economy and agreed that their joint efforts would be helpful for urgent redress of problems.

Both sides discussed possibilities for launch of some joint projects that would be beneficial for their members. It was agreed that both sides would maintain close liaison in endeavors aimed at promoting the larger interests of national economy.

LAHORE ( FNNI ) Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has issued special instructions for the provision of best food items and soft drinks to the police officials deputed for protection of life and property of people during Muharram-ul-Haram. The Chief Minister during a meeting to review security arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram inquired about provision of eatables to police personnel performing duty during Muharram-ul-Haram upon which he was informed that arrangements for breakfast and meals have been made and a menu has also been prepared. The Chief Minister after listening to the list of food items directed that the menu should be further improved and best breakfast and delicious lunch and dinner besides soft drinks and mineral water should be served to police officials performing duty during Muharram-ul-Haram. He directed Inspector General Police to ensure implementation of his instructions and no complaint should be received in this regard.

LAHORE ( FNNI )  Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif presided over a four hours long meeting of provincial cabinet here today which gave approval to the unprecedented programme of provision of interest-free loans to small cultivators with the help of modern technology. The meeting also gave approval to the agreements between Punjab government and financial institutions for providing interest-free loans. Moreover, release of funds for several development projects, programmes and development schemes was also approved in the meeting. Provincial cabinet was also briefed on security arrangements for the protection of life and property of people during Muharram-ul-Haram, reforms in police system and the use of modern technology for improving law and order. The Chief Minister said that front desks have been set up in 202 police stations in Punjab while these would be established in all police stations of the province byDecember 31, 2016. He said that geo-tagging of seminaries and mosques has been completed. He said that Dolphin Force will be launched in all big cities of Punjab after Lahore and work has been started on the project. He said that after provincial metropolis Safe City project will be started in six other cities including Multan, Bahawalpur, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad. The Chief Minister said that government has given unprecedented Kissan Package for the uplift of agriculture sector and increase in per acre yield and modern technology will be used for economic empowerment of small cultivators. He said that a programme has been evolved first time in the history of the region for providing interest-free loans to small cultivators and five lakh farmers will benefit from this programme. He said that interest-free loans of 70 billion rupees will be given to small cultivators this year and they will get this loan immediately through smart phones. He said that agri pass book of farmers has also been digitalized. The Chief Minister said that it has also been decided to set up Khadim-e-Punjab Agri Endowment Fund with a sum of two billion rupees. The cabinet was also briefed on the pace of Sahiwal Coal Power Project, solar power project set up at Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park Bahawalpur and Bhikki Gas Power Plant, Sheikhupura. The cabinet endorsed the decision to privatize solar projects of one hundred megawatts set up by Punjab government with its own resources. Shehbaz Sharif said that 1320-megawatt Sahiwal Coal Power Project will start production from June 2017 instead of December 2017. He said that China has described the speed at which work is being carried out on the project as Punjab Speed, which is an honour for the whole country. He said that destiny of the nation can be changed if all departments work at this speed. He said that 300-megawatt solar project at Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park Bahawalpur is adding electricity to the national grid. He said that Punjab government has decided to privatize one hundred megawatt solar project set up by the provincial government with its own resources. He said that work is in progress expeditiously on 1180-megawatt gas power project at Bhikki and electricity unit will be available to the people for 6.36. He said that costly power project were set up in the past due to which the price of per unit increased whereas the completion of the projects set up by the present government will result in elimination of loadshedding and availability of low-cost power to the people. The Punjab cabinet gave approval to setting up of Finance & Development and Legislative standing committees for dealing with Rules of Business. Supplementary grants issued from July 1, 2017 were also approved by the cabinet. Provincial cabinet also granted approval to release of development budget to administrative departments for the second time during financial year 2016-17 and the mechanism for identifying development schemes, their implementation and monitoring. Furthermore, the cabinet granted approval to setting up of offices of District Population Welfare Officers in Nankana Sahib and Chiniot, reorganization of Regional Training Institutes of Multan and Lahore as well as 30 posts and 25 new vacancies for capacity-building of Population Welfare Training Institute Lahore. Shehbaz Sharif said that potable water programme has been started by the Punjab government costing 300 billion rupees and 30 billion rupees are being spent on this programme during current fiscal year. The meeting also gave approval to release of funds for PHA Rawalpindi for security arrangements in public parks, supplementary grant for replacement of air-conditioners in Nishter Hospital Multan, vacancies of biomedical engineers in teaching and district headquarter hospitals, grant for Shalimar Hospital Lahore, release of funds for Gujranwala and Sialkot Waste Management Companies during current year, funds for construction of Pir Noor Badsha Bridge, agreement for the use of water for 720 megawatt Kerot hydro power project besides supplementary grants of 231.754 million rupees under different heads for Punjab Public Service Commission. Cabinet sub-committee will review amendments in Police Rules 1934 and Punjab Population Policy 2016. Provincial Ministers, Special Assistants, Advisors, Chief Secretary and senior officials attended the meeting.

Lahore ( FNNI )  A delegation of Food and Agriculture Organization led by its Director General Jose Graziano da Silva called on Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, here today. The meeting agreed to enhance cooperation between Food and Agriculture Organization and Punjab government in the development of agriculture, prosperity of small cultivators, use of modern technology for increasing agri production, overcoming malnutrition in children and food security sectors. DG Food and Agriculture Organization assured all out cooperation to Punjab government. The meeting decided to constitute a joint committee for increasing collaboration between Punjab government and Food and Agriculture Organization and this committee will review possibilities of cooperation in agriculture and livestock sector and evolve a road map for immediate implementation. Speaking on the occasion, Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan is an agrarian country and agriculture is of paramount importance for economy. The Chief Minister welcomed technical cooperation by Food and Agriculture Organization in the development of agriculture, increasing agri-production, promotion of use of latest technology, nutrition and agri-extension services. He said that provision of relief to the farmers is among our priorities and in view of this purpose, federal and Punjab governments have announced historical packages of billions of rupees for safeguarding the interest of small farmers. He said that use of modern technology is necessary for increasing agri production and the government has taken solid steps for promoting latest technology. He said that due to world recession, our cultivators have also faced loss. He said that Punjab government has announced special package of 100 billion rupees for providing relief to the farmers. He said that a programme has been made for providing interest free loans of billions of rupees through smart phones to small farmers. The Chief Minister said that we want to facilitate farmers with the assistance of Food and Agriculture Organization. DG Food and Agriculture Organization said that there are a large number of opportunities in agriculture sector of Pakistan and he is very impressed by strengthening economy of Pakistan. He said that impression of world regarding Pakistan is not correct. There is great potential in every sector especially agriculture, he added. He said that cooperation will be provided to Punjab government and farmers regarding seasonal changes, nutrition, introducing modern technology to small cultivators, food security and other sectors. DG Food and Agriculture Organization invited Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif to attend International Nutrition Conference in the beginning of December. Office bearers of Food and Agriculture Organization, Federal Minister National Food Security Sikandar Bosan, Provincial Ministers Farrukh Javed, Yawar Zaman, Bilal Yasin, Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Special Assistant on Livestock Arshad Jutt, Chairman P&D and concerned secretaries were present on the occasion.
