Rawalpindi (FNNI) Assistant Commissioner Murree, Arif Ullah Awan has said that tehsil administration is fully committed to ensuring provision of all essential eatable items on fixed priced and campaign against the illegal profiteers who had been indulged in selling foods items on high prices. He stated this during a meeting of Price Magistrates in his office to review the progress of campaign against illegal profiteers.

 He said that teams are conducting raids on the regular basis to check price-hike in different areas of Murree and fine of thousands of rupees had been imposed on shopkeepers who had been found involved in creating artificial price hike by selling food items more than the fixed prices by the District Administration. The AC Murree further said that Punjab Food Authority was also engaged to curb price hike and sale of substandard food items and legal action had been taken in violation of laws. He asked Price Magistrates to undertake visits to all such areas falling in their jurisdiction to mitigate the complaints of citizens. He asked consumers to register their complaints regarding over charging and point out those elements who had been violating Food Act so that they should be penalized.

CM ADDRESSES E-STAMP PAPERS LAUNCH CEREMONY- Fnni.org

LAHORE (FNNI) Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that the government is speedily moving towards e-governance and after land record management information system, e-stamp papers system has been launched in 144 tehsils of the province. He said that the new system is a revolutionary step of Punjab government for the elimination of corruption and forgery. He said that 70-years old system of judicial and non-judicial stamp papers has been replaced with the new system in the province. He said that the new system will result in the elimination of forgery and fraud and ensure easy access to data. He said that e-stamp papers will also put an end to the practice of issuance of stamp papers in back dates and the problems of the people regarding the correct evaluation of their properties will be resolved. Shahbaz Sharif said that modern technology will also be introduced in education, health, police and other sectors. He said that modern information system is will also be implemented in hospitals which will ensure attendance of doctors and paramedical staff as well as control misappropriation of medicines.

                   The Chief Minister expressed these views while addressing a ceremony with regard to the launching of e-stamp papers at Arfa Karim Software Technology Park, here today. He said that it is another important day in the history of Punjab as the system of e-stamp papers has been introduced in all districts of the province. He said that under the new system, people will be able to obtain stamp papers within 15 minutes instead of three days and they will not have to pay frequent visits to offices and banks. He said that hospitals have an obsolete system of attendance but the hospital managements have no objection but they are opposing the modern system. He said that Punjab government is introducing modern information system in hospitals. He requested managements to hospitals, surgeons, doctors, paramedics and YDA to accept the new system. He said that opposition to e-register is no service to ailing humanity.

cm-punjab-1 He asked medical community to adopt the modern system as it will eliminate misappropriation of drugs besides ensuring attendance in hospitals for the benefit of patients. He said that absence of medical staff resulting in pain and sufferings to the patients cannot be tolerated. He said that this system has to be changed. The Chief Minister said that the new system will be enforced in hospitals and no power on earth can stop it. He said that media is discharging its responsibilities efficiently but a handful of blackmailers are presenting a wrong picture of the country. He said that these elements should also inform how much efforts the government is making to reform the system and put an end to corruption. He said that plea bargain of NAB is a fraud and it had been introduced by dictator Musharraf who toppled democracy. He said that a wrong deed cannot be justified through the backdoor. He said that there is plea bargain system also in civilized societies but the corrupt elements are punished and they have to face imprisonment. Shahbaz Sharif said that through plea bargain only a small amount is recovered from the elements embezzling billions and trillions of rupees and Balochistan case is an example. He said that elimination of the system of a plea bargain is the need of the hour. The Chief Minister further said that through e-stamp papers, the old system has been done away with under which the poor were deprived of their right through the issuance of stamp papers in back dates. He said that Punjab government has taken a historic step by introducing e-stamp papers. He said that though some resistance was shown to the system but the Punjab government has successfully implemented the system. He said that provincial ministers, Dr. Umer Saif, Chief Secretary, Senior Member Board of Revenue and the whole team working on the project deserve all out credit. He also thanked State Bank of Pakistan for the success of this system. He said that putting an end to corruption is a service to the nation and collective efforts will have to be made to eliminate this menace. He said that the obsolete system under which the rich are getting richer and the poor getting poorer will have to be checked. He said that if a positive revolution is not brought about in the country, no one will be able to stop a bloody revolution. He said that due to e-stamp papers, revenue recovery has increased by 33 percent and had the new system not been there, this money would have gone into the pockets of corrupt elements. Shahbaz Sharif said that no society can progress without justice but unfortunately justice is sold in police stations and hatcheries. He said that justice is essential for progress and development. He said that Punjab government has taken positive measures for the provision of social and economic justice and modern technology is being promoted for this purpose. He expressed the hope that time will come when the destiny of Pakistan will change and the country will be able to achieve a respectable status in the comity of nations. Provincial Ministers Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Ata Manika, Advisor Dr. Umer Saif, Senior Member Board of Revenue and Deputy Governor of the State Bank also addressed the ceremony. Provincial Ministers, Members Assembly, Chief Secretary, IT experts, columnists and a large number of boy and girl students were present. The Chief Minister presented shields to those who completed the new system of e-stamp system whereas Dr. Umer Saif presented a souvenir to the chief minister.

She said that we were striving to bring the parliamentarians on one platform to prioritize the issue and devise a future advocacy plan for the inclusion of LSBE in the mainstream curriculum and in the parties’ manifestos. The participants emphasized the need for an aggressive mass awareness campaign in the country. Ms. Amna Akhsheed highlighted the situation of Life Skills Based Education in Pakistan. Parliamentarians Ms. Khaula Amjad, Kanwal Noman, Rahila Khadim Hussain, Farah Mansoor, Asma Bukhari, Gulnar Shahzadi, Saima Mohudin, Zaib un Nisa Awan, Tamkeen Akhtar, Najma Begum. ( FNNI )  Punjab Chief Minister MuhammaShahbazaz Sharif has said that all phases of local bodies’ elections have been completed satisfactorily and like general elections, Muslim League-N has won at every level which is a result of selfless service to the masses. He said that power is only a means of service to the people and PML-N government led by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is serving the masses sincerely and honestly. He said that negative politics of allegations cannot compete with the politics of public service and transparency.

The Chief Minister said that provision of best services to the people is pivot of the politics of PML-N. He said that local bodies’ institutions are an effective system of solution of problems of citizens at the local level. He said that local bodies electoral process has been completed which will help resolve problems of the people at local level. He said that setting up of local bodies’ institution will further accelerate the process of development. The Chief Minister said that local bodies’ representatives will have to come up to the expectations of people and make public service their mission. He said that they will have to use their power for the provision of best services to the citizens. He said that leadership of local bodies’ will have to work with spirit and determination. Shehbaz Sharif said that besides power and responsibility, a system of check and balance is also necessary and the newly-elected local bodies’ leadership will have to further the mission of public service. He further said that collective efforts are needed for progress of the province and prosperity of the masses. LAHORE. ( FNNI )  Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high-level meeting, here today, which considered the matters regarding the purchase of laptops for boy and girl students.

cm-punjab-3-1 Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that lakhs of students are benefitting from laptop scheme of Punjab government and by giving laptops to talented students, Punjab government has granted them their right. Shahbaz Sharif said that use of modern technology is the need of the hour, therefore, Punjab government has launched laptop scheme for students and has provided lakhs of laptops worth billions of rupees to boy and girl students so far. He said that this step of the provincial government is helping in the empowerment of students. He said that more laptops will be given to students during the current fiscal year. The Chief Minister said that the process of procurement of laptops should be completed as early as possible. Provincial Ministers Rana Mashhood Ahmed, Syed Raza Ali Gillani, Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Chief Secretary, Advisor Dr. Umer Saif and concerned authorities attended the meeting while Chairman Planning & Development participated through a video link.

US wants to further enhance trade with Pakistan – Envoy – Fnni.org

Islamabad (FNNI) H.E. Mr. David Hale, Ambassador of USA said that Pakistan was an important ally of US against the war on terror and his country wanted to further enhance trade with it as the promotion of two-way trade would be mutually beneficial for both countries. He was talking to a delegation of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry that called on him led by President Khalid Iqbal Malik.

Khalid Malik Senior Vice President, Tahir Ayub Vice President ICCI, Mian Akram Farid, Mian Shaukat Masud, Zafar Bakhtawari, Nasir Qureshi and Muhammad Faheem Khan were in the delegation.

US Envoy said that Pakistan was an agricultural country but was using old technology and added that Pakistan could increase its agricultural productivity manifold by using latest agro technology and machinery of USA. He said security situation was improving in Pakistan which was laudable. He said improved security would attract more investors from the USA and other countries to Pakistan and help trade and industrial activities to flourish. He said the newly elected President of US was a businessman and he knew very well the importance of promoting business relations with other countries. He was optimistic that during the tenure of new US administration, Pak-US trade, and economic relations would get a further boost.

Speaking at the occasion, Khalid Iqbal Malik, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that Pak-US bilateral trade during January-October 2016 was around $4.533 billion. However, he said there was lot more potential to further enhance two-way trade. He said both countries should work to facilitate direct contacts between their private sectors which were the best way to improve trade relations. He said Pakistan’s economy suffered a huge loss of $107 billion due to fighting a war against terror and urged that the US should provide easy access to more Pakistani products to its market that would be the best compensation for its economic loss. He said the US should launch direct flights to Pakistan that will help in promoting trade as well.

He said apart from defense products, both countries should focus on enhancing trade in many other areas. He said embassy should play role in bringing chambers of commerce of both countries closer that would help in identifying new areas of mutual cooperation. He said Pakistan manufactured high-quality pharmaceutical products and the USA should try to import these products from Pakistan for the benefit of its customers.

The private sector should come forward to invest in tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) to achieve lucrative results: Chief Minister-Fnni.org

Islamabad (  FNNI )  Hafiz Hafeez ur Rehman, Chief Minister, Gilgit-Baltistan has said that his region has tremendous potential for tourism but a lack of good hotels was a major constraint and urged that private sector should come forward to invest in tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) to achieve lucrative results. He was addressing business community at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He said tourism was a rapidly growing industry in the world with the largest share in the GDP of 27 countries. He said inflow of tourists was on the rise as during this year 3500 foreign tourists visited GB with 20 to 25 thousand annual flow of domestic tourists. He said 3 five star and 4 three star hotels were needed in GB to facilitate tourists. He said GB government was providing tax exemptions on the import of machinery and equipment for mining, hotel and packaging industries. He said the government would provide electricity to industry @ Rs.5.50 to Rs.6/unit and urged that local investors should take benefit of these concessions to enhance investment in this region

He said GB has the potential to generate 40,000 MW hydropower, but successive governments ignored this potential. He said PM was focusing on the better development of this region and added that work on Diamer Bhasha dam will start in 2017 as 48,000 acre land for this project has been acquired. The project would cost US$ 14 billion and will generate 4800 MW hydropower. He said a regional grid would be constructed at a cost of Rs.25 billion and a transmission line from GB to Fateh Jhang at a cost of US$ 3 billion to connect GB with the national grid. He said only 10 percent work for the development of GB has been done so far and 90 percent still remained. He said GB government would focus on policy making and would give a major role to the private sector for economic development. He urged that business community should play role in the growth of business activities in this region, which is still unexplored and assured that his government would act as a facilitator for them.

 

Speaking at the occasion, Khalid Iqbal Malik, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that ICCI would play role in highlighting investment potential of GB at every relevant forum to attract investment to this region. He said a Special Economic Zone under CPEC would be developed in GB and stressed that investors of Potohar Region should be given a special package for investment in the said Zone. He said road network needs improvement in GB and government should give land on lease for a long-term period so that investors could make an investment with confidence.
