The MNA appreciated the efforts of PEECA and further stated that by smartly constructing our buildings, we can save substantial costs and resources which will lead in enhancing a nature-friendly environment and by conserving existing resources of mines mainly coal & natural gas.

The seminar presented the comprehensive overview on developing building codes and highlighted the importance of building codes to builders, small & midscale constructors, architects, housing scheme developers and ABAD members and to develop understanding between the stakeholders in following the building codes to avoid disasters.

Meanwhile, Mr. AbdurRahman, Program Manager PEECA, in his opening remarks welcomed the distinguished guests and described the vision of PEECA to create awareness among the masses for the promotion of energy efficiency and conservation measures in Punjab, by conducting regular Awareness Programs under the umbrella of Punjab Energy Department, Government of Punjab.

LAHORE (FNNI) The Punjab government has launched free internet service (wifi hotspot) at over 200 places of five big cities of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan and Bahawalpur while this service will also be available at 16 places in Murree. Lakhs of citizens will benefit from this service and they will get convenience in making contacts. Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the free internet service at a ceremony held at IrfaKareen Software Technology Park by pressing a button. Addressing the ceremony, the chief minister said the launch of the free internet service at five big cities is a huge step toward converting the province to the digital system. He said the Punjab government has taken revolutionary measures for the promotion of the IT and performance many of several government departments has been enhancing by utilizing IT. He said old system of patwaris has been replaced by the Land Record Information Management System which has provided relief to the people and the land matters have been made the easy and rural population of five crores and 60 lakh has been directly benefited from this system. He said in the old system a farmer used to get ownership document of their land after paying bribes and spending a lot of time, but in the current system ownership document can be obtained in 30 minutes without any bride while matters of transfer of land take place in 45 minutes. He said patwari culture, bribes, and corruption have been eliminated through the new system and it has provided relief to the people. He said the credit of this project launched with the cooperation of the World Bank goes to the whole team of the Punjab government.Chief Minister Punjab-3 Shehbaz Sharif said all police stations have been computerized and FIR is registered through the computer and this process has been made paper-free and no change in FIR is possible now. He said former IGP Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera has played the vital role in the computerisation of police stations and he hopes the new IGP will also continue his legacy because ‘afsarshahi’has been eliminated by computers in police stations. He said IT labs have been set up in all government schools in Punjab and now 50,000 tablets will be also distributed that is another giant step towards utilizing the latest technology. He said during dengue epidemic IT was used and this epidemic was controlled. He said the dengue control through IT is the great lesson to follow this model in all fields of the life. He said the future of Pakistan is connected to IT and we can move forward by utilizing modern knowledge. The chief minister said IT University is operating in Irfa Kareem Technology Park while new campus of the university is being set up by acquiring land worth billions of rupees on Badian Road and the land has been handed over to its VC Dr. UmerSaif who has promised to set up the new campus in one year. He said the IT University will be great achievement and funds for it will be earmarked in the forthcoming budget. Shehbaz Sharif said the foundation stone ofBhikki power plant of 1180MW was laid on October 9, 2015, and this project was inaugurated on April 19, 2017, and a sum of Rs50 billion has been saved in this project and this saving is the real saving. He said the performance of turbine at Bhikkiis most efficient in the world. He said the performance of turbine in Guddu power plant installed in the past was 54 per cent and benchmark of Nepra is 57 per cent while the efficiency of the turbine of Bhikki is 61.9 percent that is the top efficiency in the world. He said, on the one hand, there is Neelum Jhelum project of 985MW that is still incomplete despite the passage of 18 years while on the other hand there is 1180MW Bhikki power plant that has been completed in the record minimum time of 18 months and this project has started proving 717 MW to the national grid in the first phase.CM PUNJAB-2

Chairman PITB Dr. Umer Saif briefed about steps taken to introduce e-governance and the use of the IT in education, health, police and other sectors. He also told about the purpose of free internet service. He said CM Shehbaz Sharif has extraordinary capabilities and ensures the completion of projects at the fast pace due to which the term ‘Punjab Speed’ is known in the whole world. He said IT has brought about the revolution in several departments while KPK and Sindh governments have sought cooperation from the Punjab government to bring about improvement in the performance of government departments and CM Shehbaz Sharif has directed to provide all-out cooperation to both provincial governments. Finance Minister Dr. Ayeshah Ghaus Pasha also addressed the ceremony. Provincial ministers, lawmakers, senior officers of Punjab and IT experts also participated in the ceremony. At the end of the ceremony chairman PITC, Dr. Umer Saif presented a shield to the chief minister. EOBI Chairman assures to address encroachment issue in I-8 Markaz to facilitate traders –

Islamabad (FNNI) Khaqan Murtaza, Chairman, Employees Old Age Benefit Institution along with Director General Operations Abdul Wahid and Deputy Director General Syed Iqbal Haider Zaidi visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and addressing the business community assured to address the issue of encroachments in I-8 Markaz due suspended EOBI projects so that traders of area could get rid of multiple problems. He said due to cases in court, work on EOBI projects in I-8 Markaz was on hold, but efforts were being made to resolve this issue through negotiations. He said about 18 projects of EOBI were suspended due to court cases and the department was suffering losses of millions of rupees.He EOBI was providing pension to 40 million pensioners while 40,000 employees were being insured every year. He said if this trend continued, EOBI pensioners would touch the figure of 400 million in coming times. He said EOBI has taken steps to facilitate its beneficiaries and has issued ATM cards of Bank Al-Falah to 3 Lac 63 thousand pensioners so that they could draw pension through ATMs. He said EOBI has assets of over Rs.300 billion and it was making investments in PIBs and other safe instruments. He admitted that minimum pension of Rs.5250/month was quite insufficient, but added that pension case was in Supreme Court. He asked the business community to cooperate in the registration of employees in EOBI so that maximum workers could take benefit of its pension.

Speaking at the occasion, Khalid Iqbal Malik, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that EOBI was paying minimum pension of the only Rs.5250/month which was totally insufficient to meet even the minimum basic needs of life and urged that EOBI should enhance its minimum pension to at least Rs.10,000/- to ease the woes of its pensioners. He said government used to increase the pension of its employees almost every year, but EOBI was giving rise in pension after a gap of many years. He said that EOBI should link the increase in pension with annual inflation to provide better relief to its pensioners.

He said due to suspended projects of EOBI in I-8 Markaz, parking of the areas was occupied by construction material while footpaths, toilets and other infrastructure has been badly damaged due to which business activities were badly suffering. He said EOBI should remove its encroachments from I-8 Markaz to facilitate the traders.

He said EOBI’s online facilitation system was available only for five days from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm while FBR online system was available for 24 hours. He stressed that EOBI should further streamline its online facilitation system and make it available for 24 hours to facilitate the industrial and commercial establishments. Khalid Malik, Senior Vice President ICCI, Tariq Sadiq, Zafar Bakhtawari, Mian Akram Farid, Sanaullah Khan and others also spoke at the occasion.

In addition, the Secretary-General FCCI Mr. Abid Masood said that about $1trillion worth trade is expected through CPEC project. In this regard, Government of Pakistan is making all out efforts to provide infrastructure and completion of the project of Gawadar Port while briefing about FCCI activities he said, The main objective of FCCI is to bridge the gap between public and private sectors. Moreover, foreign ambassadors and high profiled government functionaries, federal and provincial ministers visited FCCI and held a meeting with traders and industrial community. FCCI 30Earlier, Miss Nighat Parveen Associate Professor English (Government College Karkhana Bazar Faisalabad) extended her gratitude to FCCI management for providing an opportunity to finance and accounting students to interact with the FCCI Management.

Furthermore, Mr. Muhammad Din Tahir (Director R&D) described the CPEC project to the students and said that it is a project of $58 billion investment which will enhance the ties between the Pakistan and China and will also prove to be a milestone for the future of Pakistan. He said that R&D section of FCCI has also compiled a comprehensive study report on CPEC, which clearly identifies its pros and cons. This book has been provided to the government departments policy makers in order to redress the irritant. He further said that language was yet another barrier, however, FCCI has started Chinese language course to bridge this gap. Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that provision of quality and modern medical facilities to people is his mission which will be fulfilled at all costs. With hard work and determination steps are being taken to improve the healthcare system. The Chief Minister said that we had to move forward to serve the ailing humanity. All out resources were available for the provision of better medical facilities to the people. The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister National Health Insurance Program was successfully running in four districts of the province and the scope of this program would be extended to all districts of the province. The Chief Minister said that Punjab government had introduced the modern system of purchase, supply, and distribution of medicines and this new system would end the sale of counterfeit and substandard medicines. The Chief Minister said that the samples of medicines were being sent to foreign labs for examination and those who were performing well in collecting samples of medicines and sending them to foreign labs would be encouraged. This new system of purchase, supply, and distribution of medicines was an important step for the provision of quality medicines to the patients, he added. The Chief Minister said that the program to provide city scan machines in all districts was being implemented. With the installation of city scan machines in districts hospitals, the patients would have city scan facilities round the clock. The Chief Minister also directed for the audit of dialyzer machines installed in all government hospitals and to take immediate steps to overcome the shortage of nephrologists in government hospitals. The Chief Minister said that mobile health units were providing quality medical facilities to people at their doorsteps in far flung areas. The Chief Minister also directed to complete the matter regarding the purchase of more mobile health units. He also directed to present a comprehensive plan for blood bank, blood collection, and blood transfer. The Chief Minister said that motorbikes ambulance service would be introduced soon in 9 divisions of the province and the training for staff of motorbikes ambulance service was going on. The Chief Minister said that the Punjab government has handed over the administration of ambulance service of the hospitals from the health department to Rescue 1122. This new system of ambulance service would improve the service of transferring patients to hospitals on time. The Chief Minister said that Patient Transfer Service was a revolutionary step of Punjab government. He further added that continuous efforts were required for the improvement in the healthcare system which would bear fruits one day. DG Rescue 1122 while briefing said that all steps had been taken for the auction of old ambulances and the auction of 81 outmode ambulances would be done in this month. Provincial Ministers Kh. FAISALABAD (FNNI) 44-degree temperature in the month of April has necessitated the need for extensive tree plantation in this agro-industrial city of Pakistan, said President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) Engineer Mohammad Saeed Sheikh.

He was addressing a function while receiving the donation of hundred plants of “Bogan Baliye”. These plants were donated by Mr. Mohammad Aslam Saeed Chairman FCCI Standing Committee on Beautification and Tree Plantation.

Engineer Mohammad Saeed Sheikh said that Faisalabad has become a jungle of concrete where the tree is gradually reducing at a much faster pace. The reduction in greenery has increased temperature which has now become unbearable even in the month of April. He said that being responsible citizens we must plant maximum trees to offset the ill impacts of hot weather. He termed canal road as the blessing for the people of Faisalabad as it has enough space for the linear plantation. However, he was critical of the cutting of the healthy trees and said that district administration should clearly identify the space which will be utilized for further development so that new plantation could be made only in safe and protected areas.

Mr. Aslam Saeed Chairman FCCI Standing Committee said that 100 plants will be planted to cover the earthen slopes of the road on the eastern side of the canal and in front of FCCI Complex. It will not only save this slope from erosion but also discourage the use of this slope for dangerous passage by unscrupulous elements.

Later President FCCI also planted a sapling while veteran leader Haji Mohammad Shafee prayed for the success of this tree plantation campaign.

FAISALABAD (FNNI) Second batch of Chinese Language Course started in Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) here today.

Inaugurating the course President FCCI, Engineer Mohammad Saeed Sheikh termed China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a true game changer for this entire region. He said that it may have positive as well as negative effects and we must try ourselves to get maximum benefit out of it. He said that Pakistan and China are time tested friends but their relations could not be translated into economic terms only due to the language barrier.fcci logoRealizing the importance of this aspect, FCCI had started Chinese Language Course about two months ago which has been recently completed. On the pressing demand of our members, we have decided to start another batch so that workers of our valued members to learn Chinese language and work with the Chinese Engineers and investors with comfort and ease.
