Lahore (FNNI) Member National Assembly Najaf Abbas Sial and former Member Provincial Assembly Qaisar Amin Butt called on Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, here today. He said that neither politics of chaos and anarchy has succeeded earlier and nor will succeed in future. He said that the people who wanted to create hurdles in the journey of progress and prosperity of the nation have become isolated politically. People of Pakistan want only development, prosperity and peace, he added. Shehbaz Sharif said that the country has been put on the road to progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif which will be further forwarded speedily.

Lahore (FNNI) Punjab Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of firing in Tandlianwala and ordered an investigation into the incident besides sought a report from CPO Faisalabad. The Chief Minister said that no one is above law and the accused involved in the incident should be arrested and action be taken as per law against them. He said that legal action without any discrimination should be taken against those taking law in their hand. He directed the administration to provide best treatment facilities to the injured.

Lahore (FNNI) Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif presided over an important meeting of Provincial Cabinet Committee on Law & Order, here today which reviewed in detail holding off final match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Lahore. The decision of holding final match of PSL in Lahore was taken in consultation with cabinet committee on law & order and other provincial and federal security institutions. After consultation with all institutions, the Chief Minister accorded approval to hold the final match in Lahore. Addressing the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif said that hundred percent foolproof security will be ensured for PSL. He directed cabinet committee on law & order to make best arrangements for the final match and also review security and other measures on a daily basis while he will regularly review the progress of all arrangements. The Chief Minister said that the decision of holding final match of PSL in Lahore has been taken in the best interest of the country and the nation. He appealed to the nation to support government efforts for the success of final match as we have to jointly make final match successful. CM PUnjab-2He said that all concerned institutions should perform their duties with the best coordination for making final match successful and added that besides ensuring foolproof security, other preparations should also be excellent. Shehbaz Sharif directed to ensure implementation of security plan evolved at all costs and said that an effective monitoring system should be evolved in this regard. The Chief Minister said that all have to work with determination, enthusiasm, and devotion to making final match successful. He expressed the hope that with the support of people this mega final will succeed. Shehbaz Sharif said that no conspiracy of the enemy will be allowed to succeed. He said that nefarious designs of terrorists and their facilitators will be filed jointly and expressed the hope that we will come up with expectations of the masses. Chief Minister Punjab

Lahore (FNNI)  Punjab Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif presided over a high-level meeting here today which reviewed different matters regarding implementation of Khadim-e-Punjab Saaf Pani Programme and took various important decisions for its implementation in future. The Chief Minister said that future strategy has been evolved for speedy implementation of Saaf Pani Project and now we have to jointly implement this project speedily.Chief Minister Punjab He said that program of the provision of clean drinking water will be started in 37 tehsils of South Punjab in the first phase and its scope will be expanded across the province in phases while non-functional water schemes would also be restored. Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that now work is being carried out in right direction for implementation of a programme of provision of potable water. He said that this is an excellent public welfare programme, therefore, it should be forwarded as early as possible. Shehbaz Sharif said that each and every moment regarding the implementation of the program is precious and we have to compensate the time wasted in the past with hard work and determination. He directed Saaf Pani Company to select the best human resource on merit for its capacity-building and added that viable recommendations should be presented for the restoration of non-functional rural water schemes. He said that clean drinking water is the basic right of every citizen and Punjab government is working on this program to ensure that right. He said that the targets of Saaf Pani Programme have to be achieved within stipulated period and work will have to be carried out vigorously in this regard. He directed to keep in view future needs while implementing this program so that there should be room for further expansion. He said that clean drinking water is the life which is directly associated with human health and potable water is the basic need of every citizen. He said that provision of clean drinking water to people is the responsibility of the government which will be fulfilled at any cost. Shehbaz Sharif said that program of clean drinking water will have to be completed in the fixed period at all costs and move speedily towards achieving the goal. Chief Executive Officer Saaf Pani Company South gave a briefing regarding different models and implementation of the program. Chairman Saaf Pani Company South Ch. The energy crisis will be over that will automatically attract new Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Pakistan: Dr. Miftah Ismail –

FAISALABAD (FNNI) All economic indicators have improved considerably and with the completion of new powerhouses and import of LNG the energy crisis will be over that will automatically attract new Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Pakistan, said State Minister/Chairman Board of Investment Dr. Miftah Ismail.

Addressing a function in Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) here today, he said that just three or four years back the stock market was dwindling at 19000 points that have now crossed the barriers of 55000 points. Similarly, the GDP has jumped to 5 percent from 2.8 percent in 2013. He said that agriculture production has also recorded a sizeable increase that will help in containing inflation around 3.5 percent. However, the textile package may further increase its effect up to 4.1 percent which is reasonable within the given circumstances.

He said that despite all positive indicators, the decline in exports is very alarming and the government was taking necessary steps to stabilize exports. He told that the energy crisis was a major impediment in attracting domestic as well as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). He said that elimination of energy crisis will help in attracting FDI in a big way as the other factors including connectivity etc. have also been resolved. He said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is a major project and in its first phase 51 billion dollars are expected to be invested out of which 34 billion dollars have been earmarked for the power plants. He clarified that this is not a loan and these plants are being installed on the same terms and conditions as were allowed by Benazir Bhutto in 1994 and by Musharraf in 2002.

Responding to a question about five power plants being installed in Punjab, he told that three are being funded by the provincial government while two are installed by the private sector. He said that government was also considering a proposal to privatize these plants immediately after their completion.

 Continuing, Chairman Board of Investment said that the portfolio of National Highway Authority was only Rs.30 billion when this government took over. Now it has increased to Rs.140 billion and a comprehensive road network is being laid across the country including Multan-Lahore motorway. He said that the Chinese government has provided soft loan for this purpose which could be easily repayable from the toll collected from the Chinese carriers. He said that nine industrial zones have been proposed under CPEC and same facilities would be provided in these zones to the Pakistanis as well as Chinese investors to set up their industrial units. Responding to a question about the multiplicity of taxes, he said that approximately 16 to 17 agencies are collecting different taxes.”We are making efforts to withdraw at least one or two of these in addition to clubbing the remaining taxes”, he added.Regarding ease of doing business, he said that improvement in it is visible but we have to do much more to attract and facilitate the local as well as foreign investors. He also assured the local business community that their legitimate interests would be protected at all costs and in this connection he will prefer joint ventures with Chinese partners. He asked the FCCI members to visit china and explore the Chinese investors who could launch joint ventures in Pakistan. He said that BOI will fully support them in materializing these joint ventures. He further told that M-3 industrial city has already been declared Export Processing Zone but it is not possible to declare the entire city as EPZ.

Responding to yet another question, he told that industrial sector in Punjab was getting 45 percent natural gas at the local price while the remaining LNG is being supplied to them at international rates. He also contradicted news that 6 lac Chinese will come to Baluchistan every year. He told that government has issued only 2500 visas to Chinese up till now.

Earlier, Engineer Muhammad Saeed Sheikh President FCCI in his address of welcome lauded the efforts of the government who has been providing capital for the establishment of new industrial units at the lowest interest rate, Similarly, the energy crisis is over and industries are getting electricity and gas round the clock. He also welcomed the government’s decision to zero rates the five important export sectors of the country and said that Rs. 180 billion Export package will also help in the revival of the textile sector.

Regarding, FDI he told that 70 percent of it has come from China and Netherland which is being invested in power and food sectors.

Vice President Engineer Ahmad Hassan said that the local industrialists have some apprehensions about the CPEC and in this connection, a comprehensive questionnaire has already been sent to the concerned government quarters. He requested Dr. Miftah to explain these points so that the local industrialists could also contribute their role in the success of CPEC project. He said that local investment will automatically attract the FDI after the launch of CPEC project.

During question-answer session, Mr. Azhar Ali Chaudhary secretary, BOI, Dr. Khurram Tariq of PHMA, Mian Javed Iqbal, Chaudhary Muhammad Nawaz, Chaudhary Muhammad Boota and Engineer Ehtasham Javed of APTPMA raised interesting questions.

VP Ahmad Hassan being Chairman of the CPEC cell of FCCI presented a book on CPEC to the State Minister. Former President FCCI  Mian Javed Iqbal and VP Engineer Ahmad Hassan also presented FCCI shields to Dr. Miftah and Mr. Azhar Ali Chaudhary respectively.

Pakistan could be next destination for Japanese investors – Katsunori Ashida –

Islamabad (FNNI) Katsunori Ashida, First Secretary (Head of Public Affairs/Cultural Affairs), Embassy of Japan said that Pakistan could be the next destination for Japanese investors due to its low labor cost and potential market for business. He said this while exchanging views with business community during his visit to Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry.He said Japanese investors doing business in Pakistan were quite satisfied and more Japanese investors could come to Pakistan if the security situation was further improved. About free trade agreement between Pakistan and Japan, he said that FTA should be equally beneficial for both countries and should not give undue advantage to any one party. He said that Japan was ready to participate in CPEC if it proved beneficial for both Pakistan and Japan. He said that Pakistani mangoes were getting popular in Japan and added that Pakistani businessmen should study the Japanese market to get better penetration in it.

 Katsunori Ashida that Japanese government would provide a grant of Rs453 million for installing a ‘face recognition system’ at major international airports in Pakistan to improve the security situation. He said that preparations were underway to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Pak-Japan diplomatic relations and many programs were being planned for this purpose. He said visit of Japanese students to Pakistan was being planned with their stay for few days in a Pakistani home so that they could get the better feel of Pakistani culture.

 Speaking at the occasion, Khalid Malik, Senior Vice President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that both countries were enjoying good political relations that should be translated into growing trade and economic relations. He said that many Japanese companies were doing successful business in Pakistan and more should come to explore opportunities for investment and joint ventures.

 He said many Pakistani students were visiting Japan through students exchange programs and stressed that Japanese students should also visit Pakistan on regular basis. It would help in understanding each other’s culture & market as well as further strengthening bilateral trade and economic relations between the two countries.

 Tahir Ayub Vice President ICCI stressed that Japan should enhance cooperation with Pakistan in agriculture sector as both countries have good potential to promote trade in this field. Lahore (FNNI) Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, here today chaired a Provincial Apex Committee meeting in which National Security Adviser (R) Lt Gen Nasser Khan Janjua, Lahore Corps Commander Lt General Sadiq Ali, Provincial Minister for Counter Terrorism Colonel (R) Muhammad Ayub, Punjab Director General Rangers Major General Azhar Naveed Hayat, General Officer Commanding 10 Division Major General Sardar Tariq Aman, Punjab Chief Secretary Captain (R) Zahid Saeed, Inspector General Police Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera, Secretary Interior Major (R) Azam Sulaiman Khan and other high civil and military officers also took part.Chief Minister Punjab The meeting overviewed in detail all the ongoing counter terrorism operations by civil and military law enforcement agencies. The Provincial Apex Committee resolved to root out militancy, terrorism, extremism and sectarianism from the country and expressed great satisfaction on the ongoing Army operation Radd-ul-Fasaad against terrorists, their facilitators and financial supporters. The meeting decided to expand the scope of joint operations of Rangers, CTD and Police and agreed to speedily increase activities against terrorists under the operation Radd-ul-Fasaad. During the Apex Committee meeting, it was also decided to give fool proof security to Mosques, Imambargahs and other places of worship across the province. The Provincial Apex Committee resolved to take indiscriminate action against terrorists and their facilitators, eliminate the mindset of militancy, extremism, and fundamentalism with full force and to root out the networks of terrorists and their facilitators. The need to enhance cooperation with other provinces was also stressed in the meeting. While chairing the Provincial Apex Committee meeting, the Chief Minister said that we would not let the terrorists and their facilitators become successful in their evil intentions. The Chief Minister said that the brave and patriotic Pakistanis are determined to eliminate terrorism from their soil. Our collective efforts would defeat the conspiracies of our enemies, he added. The abode for terrorists and their facilitators is hell and they have to face the consequences of their evil designs not only in this world but in the world hereafter. The Chief Minister said that civil and military leadership of Pakistan is moving forward against terrorism with complete unity and we are on the same page in this war against terrorism. The Chief Minister said that this war against terrorism would continue till elimination of last terrorist. The meeting also reviewed progress on the ongoing counter terrorism operations by civil and military law enforcement agencies in the province.

Rawalpindi (FNNI) The upgraded project of Patriata Chairlift, costing rupees 10 crores, was formally inaugurated by the Punjab Minister for Labour & Manpower Raja Ashfaq Sarwar and Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural ResourcesShahid Khaqan Abbasi on Saturday. AC Murree, Arif Ullah Awan, MD, Tourism Development Corporation Punjab (TDCP) Ahmer Malik, GM Operations TDCP Asjad Ghani, Vice Chairman TDCP Imran Goraya, Dy. GM TDCP Sikandar Hayyat, Manager Murree-Patriata Region Mohsin Fazal, Manager Patriata Chairlift Akram Rabbani, President PML (N) Tehsil Murree Daftar Abbasi, General Secretary PML (N) Murree Haq Nawaz Abbasi, Chairmen UCs, Councillors and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.  Addressing the opening ceremony, Raja Ashfaq Sarwar said that PML (N) government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is committed to developing underdeveloped areas with the objective to create new employment and investment opportunities. He said that Patriata is one of the unique tourist resort where people from all over the country and from abroad visits and in order to facilitate tourists, 10 crore rupees had been spent to upgrade and modernize Patriata chairlift. Raja Ashfaq Sarwar also mentioned various public welfare initiatives of Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and said that government has focused on expanding educational, health, road communication, and other facilities by implementing the development schemes both in rural and urban areas. He said that God Almighty has blessed Pakistan with natural resources and scenic beauty and we can attract tourists by developing tourist resorts in the country and special emphasis was being laid on up gradation of recreational facilities. Punjab Minister for Labour & Manpower assured that PML (N) government will honor all its commitments and adequate funds had been allocated for the provision of basic necessities of life, especially in far-flung rural areas.

Federal Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi addressing the gathering said that government is striving hard to mitigate the sufferings of common people and huge funds had been allocated for their socio-economic uplift. He condemned such elements who want to disrupt the pace of progress by creating hurdles with their negative political tactics. He further said that Pakistan is on way of economic independence and nobody would succeed to derail democracy and political process in the country.

MD, Tourism Development Corporation Punjab Ahmer Malik while briefing about the up gradation and modernization of Patriata Chairlift, said that additional safety features had been fixed to make chairlift more safe and sound. Similarly, new cabins of cable car have been placed to facilitate the tourists, he added. Ahmer Malik further said that new communication rope had also been fixed besides replacing other essential parts of cable car system. GM Operations TDCP Asjad Ghani said that amendments and improvements in Patriata Chairlift have been made in accordance with the suggestions of tourists and chairlift has been made completely automatic to prevent any failure.

Business Community supports holding PSL Final at Lahore –


Islamabad (FNNI) Khalid Iqbal Malik, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry has said that business community fully supported the hosting of Pakistan Super League (PSL) final in Lahore as holding of this mega event in Pakistan would help in growth of business activities apart from promoting the soft image of the country and improving the confidence of foreign investors.1

He said Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Bajwa has assured that army would provide support in hosting the PSL final in Lahore while many foreign players have also agreed to participate in the final at Lahore which was encouraging.  He stressed that government should allow holding of PSL final at Lahore as it would be beneficial for the economy and the country at large.

Khalid Iqbal Malik said that Pakistan has recently witnessed a new wave of terrorism across the country which was aimed at thwarting the PSL final at Lahore and harming the Pakistan’s economy. However, he was hopeful that the strong commitment of the leadership and the Pakistan Armed Forces would defeat the nefarious designs of the ant-Pakistan forces.

He lauded the role of Pak Army and other security forces for coping with terrorism effectively and improving the law & order situation in the country. He said that with the operation of Pak Army against terrorists, business activities were reviving in the country. He said that CPEC was considered a game changer for Pakistan and holding of PSL final at Lahore would increase the confidence of investors in the country.

ICCI President said that sports have now emerged as an effective instrument for promoting business and investment activities as mega sports events were generating business of billions of dollars. He stressed that government should create a conducive environment for sports activities in the country that would give a new boost to business and economic activities.
