The MNA appreciated the efforts of PEECA and further stated that by smartly constructing our buildings, we can save substantial costs and resources which will lead in enhancing a nature-friendly environment and by conserving existing resources of mines mainly coal & natural gas.

The seminar presented the comprehensive overview on developing building codes and highlighted the importance of building codes to builders, small & midscale constructors, architects, housing scheme developers and ABAD members and to develop understanding between the stakeholders in following the building codes to avoid disasters.

Meanwhile, Mr. AbdurRahman, Program Manager PEECA, in his opening remarks welcomed the distinguished guests and described the vision of PEECA to create awareness among the masses for the promotion of energy efficiency and conservation measures in Punjab, by conducting regular Awareness Programs under the umbrella of Punjab Energy Department, Government of Punjab.

EOBI Chairman assures to address encroachment issue in I-8 Markaz to facilitate traders –

Islamabad (FNNI) Khaqan Murtaza, Chairman, Employees Old Age Benefit Institution along with Director General Operations Abdul Wahid and Deputy Director General Syed Iqbal Haider Zaidi visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and addressing the business community assured to address the issue of encroachments in I-8 Markaz due suspended EOBI projects so that traders of area could get rid of multiple problems. He said due to cases in court, work on EOBI projects in I-8 Markaz was on hold, but efforts were being made to resolve this issue through negotiations. He said about 18 projects of EOBI were suspended due to court cases and the department was suffering losses of millions of rupees.He EOBI was providing pension to 40 million pensioners while 40,000 employees were being insured every year. He said if this trend continued, EOBI pensioners would touch the figure of 400 million in coming times. He said EOBI has taken steps to facilitate its beneficiaries and has issued ATM cards of Bank Al-Falah to 3 Lac 63 thousand pensioners so that they could draw pension through ATMs. He said EOBI has assets of over Rs.300 billion and it was making investments in PIBs and other safe instruments. He admitted that minimum pension of Rs.5250/month was quite insufficient, but added that pension case was in Supreme Court. He asked the business community to cooperate in the registration of employees in EOBI so that maximum workers could take benefit of its pension.

Speaking at the occasion, Khalid Iqbal Malik, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that EOBI was paying minimum pension of the only Rs.5250/month which was totally insufficient to meet even the minimum basic needs of life and urged that EOBI should enhance its minimum pension to at least Rs.10,000/- to ease the woes of its pensioners. He said government used to increase the pension of its employees almost every year, but EOBI was giving rise in pension after a gap of many years. He said that EOBI should link the increase in pension with annual inflation to provide better relief to its pensioners.

He said due to suspended projects of EOBI in I-8 Markaz, parking of the areas was occupied by construction material while footpaths, toilets and other infrastructure has been badly damaged due to which business activities were badly suffering. He said EOBI should remove its encroachments from I-8 Markaz to facilitate the traders.

He said EOBI’s online facilitation system was available only for five days from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm while FBR online system was available for 24 hours. He stressed that EOBI should further streamline its online facilitation system and make it available for 24 hours to facilitate the industrial and commercial establishments. Khalid Malik, Senior Vice President ICCI, Tariq Sadiq, Zafar Bakhtawari, Mian Akram Farid, Sanaullah Khan and others also spoke at the occasion.

FAISALABAD (FNNI) 44-degree temperature in the month of April has necessitated the need for extensive tree plantation in this agro-industrial city of Pakistan, said President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) Engineer Mohammad Saeed Sheikh.

He was addressing a function while receiving the donation of hundred plants of “Bogan Baliye”. These plants were donated by Mr. Mohammad Aslam Saeed Chairman FCCI Standing Committee on Beautification and Tree Plantation.

Engineer Mohammad Saeed Sheikh said that Faisalabad has become a jungle of concrete where the tree is gradually reducing at a much faster pace. The reduction in greenery has increased temperature which has now become unbearable even in the month of April. He said that being responsible citizens we must plant maximum trees to offset the ill impacts of hot weather. He termed canal road as the blessing for the people of Faisalabad as it has enough space for the linear plantation. However, he was critical of the cutting of the healthy trees and said that district administration should clearly identify the space which will be utilized for further development so that new plantation could be made only in safe and protected areas.

Mr. Aslam Saeed Chairman FCCI Standing Committee said that 100 plants will be planted to cover the earthen slopes of the road on the eastern side of the canal and in front of FCCI Complex. It will not only save this slope from erosion but also discourage the use of this slope for dangerous passage by unscrupulous elements.

Later President FCCI also planted a sapling while veteran leader Haji Mohammad Shafee prayed for the success of this tree plantation campaign.

UAE Ambassador eyes €20 billion export potential in Pakistan’s Dairy Sector –


Islamabad (FNNI) The Ambassador of United Arab Emirates H.E. Mr. Essa Abdullah Al Basha Al Noaimi said that if developed on modern lines, Pakistan’s dairy sector has the potential to promote €20 billion exports of dairy products to Europe and other countries. He said UAE considered Pakistan an important country of the Muslim world and wanted to further enhance bilateral trade with it. He said this while addressing business community at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry.  He said under UAE’s Pakistan Assistance Program, 165 projects were launched in Pakistan in health, education, infrastructure development and other areas that would mitigate the problems of Pakistani people.Graphic1He said UAE was going to organize first international level “Expo 2020” in which 80 countries would participate and about 50 million people would visit this event. He invited Pakistani business community to participate in that Expo and explore new business opportunities. He said businessmen could set up pavilions or hire space in that Expo. He said about 600 Pakistani companies were doing successful business in free economic zones of UAE while about 1.1 million Pakistanis were contributing to its economic development. He assured that UAE would continue to assist Pakistan for its better economic development.

In his welcome address, Khalid Iqbal Malik, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that Pakistan and UAE enjoyed cordial relations while bilateral trade between the two countries in 2014 was around $9 billion. However, he said the two-way trade was still less than the actual potential of both countries.  He said UAE’s bilateral trade in 2015-16 with one of our neighbors was over $50 billion which showed that Pakistan and UAE have great potential to improve the trade figure. He stressed that both countries should focus on promoting strong connectivity between their private sectors to further enhance bilateral trade.

Khalid Iqbal Malik said that UAE extended generous support to Pakistan for better health and education facilities which were laudable. He said UAE had launched Pakistan Assistance Program in 2011 for building schools, colleges, and hospitals which were highly appreciable. He said that there were tremendous investment opportunities for UAE’s investors in various sectors of Pakistan’s economy including infrastructure development, power generation, water management, agro-industries. He said that both countries have good prospects to start joint ventures in many areas including aluminum products, horticulture, farming, dairy farming, livestock, financial sector, prefabricated houses and affordable low-income houses. He said cooperation between SMEs of Pakistan and UAE could fetch more beneficial results for both countries. SAYS PEOPLE TO GET 17 SERVICES UNDER ONE ROOF; DRAFT OF RIGHT TO SERVICES ACT 2017 IS READY; ALL KHIDMAT MARAKIZ TO BE FUNCTIONAL BY CURRENT YEARCM PUNJAB-1LAHORE (FNNI)Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif presided over a high-level meeting here today in which establishment of Khidmat Markaz in 36 districts of Punjab was approved. As many as 17 services will be provided under one roof in every Khidmat Markaz. Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that provision of better services and facilities is mission of Punjab government and establishment of Khidmat Markakis is a vital step in this regard. He said Khidmat Markaz have been set up in six districts while state-of-the-art Khidmat Markaz in remaining districts will be made functional by the end of current year where people will be able to get 17 services under one roof. He said that establishment of Khidmat Markaz is a brilliant decision of Punjab government and problems of the people will be resolved under one roof and they will not need to visit various offices for resolution of their problems. He said third party validation and financial audit of Khidmat Markaz will also be carried out. He said an excellent Khidmat Markaz centre has been established in Faisalabad for which Provincial Minister, Chief Secretary, Chairman PITB and the whole team deserve appreciation. He said model of Khidmat Markaz in Faisalabad should be replicated in other districts. He said that Khidmat Markaz is also functional in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sargodha, Sahiwal and Gujranwala apart from Faisalabad. He said an awareness campaign should be launched to make people aware of Khidmat Markaz. Shehbaz Sharif said that strict monitoring of Khidmat Markaz will be carried out. The Chief Minister constituted a committee headed by Chief Secretary to present its report in one week on recommendations on new system of services, its monitoring system and other matters. He said project management unit should also be constituted and necessary legislation is also being carried out for implementation of the programme. Draft of Right to Services Act 2017 is ready and it will be presented to the assembly for approval. Giving briefing to the meeting, Dr. Umer Saif said an effective system has been made for applicants to know about the status of their applications submitted in Khidmat Markaz. Ten Khidmat Markaz has been set up throughout the province and six out of them are functional. Provincial Finance Minister Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Adviser Dr. Umer Saif, Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary, Acting IGP, concerning secretaries, and senior officials were present on the occasion. The Chairman P&D participated in the meeting via video link.
